Oil filter location

Oil filter location

Postby inphluence » Thu May 06, 2010 9:20 pm

I am coming close to doing my first oil change on my 2005 Solara 2.4L. Where is the location of the oil filter? I haven't had a chance to look, but would like to know a general idea of where it is.

Since I purchased it used with 60,000 miles, I was thinking of starting off with a synth blend and maybe going fully synethetic after a few changes or should I just stick with a synth blend or maybe just stick with dino oil? Opinion on that?

Thanks!

As to the oil filter location, its best accessed under the car, right past (kinda under) the plastic aerodynamic thingies on the accessories side of the engine bay. If you use any type of lift (I bought cheap plastic ramps) you can see it easily. Be prepared to have some degree of difficulty as the angle to work with is difficult if you don't have the appropriate tool (one of those filter tools with wrench attachment should make it a breeze).

As for the oil recommendations, people here use all types (excellent results every time). I have treated mine to synthetic Mobil-1 since its 2nd oil change (around 15k miles) and recently trying out Royal Purple (no real difference). If you want to do any cleaning prior to changing, try SeaFoam (not really needed).

I think the most important things are not to keep changing from one oil to another (like some men/women change underwear :P) and stick to the maintenance schedule (5k required, 3k if you wish for extra protection - I do them at 5k).

Cheers! It might have 60k, but mine still feels like new at 90k. Enjoy your Toyota!!!
