sunroof

Postby xodessitx » Sat Aug 07, 2004 12:36 am

i have a concern regarding the sunroof. maybe someone can explain this to me. when my sunroof is closed, and it is raining out side, there seems to be water seems to be entering not in the front, but in the back. the dealer told me this is normal, because there are 2 water channels, one in front and 1 in back for water drainage. has anyone had this problem, or knows wats goin on.
did anyone have their rubbing noise fixed when the sunroof is opened during hot days?

Regarding the water leak, is water entering the cabin in the back? If so, then probably a drain house has a problem (ex.; hole, not connected, etc.). Regarding the noise, does the noise just occur at the start of a cycle on hot days? If yes, then it is functionally OK. More grease in the bracket channels should fix the noise.

well the water does not enter the cabin, but it is in the water channel, and is it a normal thinng for water to be there when it rains.

the noise is only on hot days, the dealer lubricated the tracks of the sunroof about 3 times now, and it still the same noise on hot days, anyother suggestions concerning this problem

Everything is normal to a dealer until the word "safety" is mentioned Then MAYBE, just maybe, they will raise an eye...and then quickly look away again. Most dealers are almost worthless.

If water is sitting on the inside part of the sunroof, it is not normal. It is also not normal to have the rubbing sound we have and it seems no one has found a successful fix...

Ya, my sunroof makes that terrible noise every time, hot or cold. It is going to the dealer 8/12, also for a squeak in the left front corner of the dash, and a rattle in the rear deck. Yay! I will keep you posted if the fix it. They tried greasing it once, and guess what? Didn't fix it.

for the noise in the rear deck what i have done is the followin:
the cover on top of the spare tire on the left side where the tools are makes ratling noise when driving, what i did was that i took a piece of cloth and put in directly under that spot. it seems that most of the ratling has went away. you should try to do this it may help. i have also had some nosie from the dash board, did u ever have any ratling noise from the sunroof area?

There was a thread a while back in regards to the sunroof making loud noise. Do a search on it and you'll find some useful infos. :D

fixes

Postby clarkman » Sun Aug 08, 2004 12:18 pm

Package tray rattle: put felt on the package tray tabs to fix.
IP (LH front) fix: Put felt on speaker nut. Pop cover off to get to nut.
Sunroof. The sunroof is designed the catch some water and allow it to drain out through attached tubes. If it is not draining correctly, check for debris blocking the water's exit.

IP Noise

Postby clarkman » Thu Aug 12, 2004 3:53 am

1. Noise from speaker nut: more like a tick noise. If you pop the speaker cover off of the IP speaker, you'll see two gold colored nuts. Put felt over both. Then put cover back on.
2. Noise from center back of IP: also tick noise. Remove cowl cover and wrap foam tape around the bottom of the windshield.
3. Noise from A-Pillar:tapping noise. Put foam tape along the metal tube under the garnish.

These are just some possibilities without having to remove the IP. If these are not the source of the problem, try looking through HVAC vents, radio opening, etc. and try to see loose wires.

My car is in the shop right now. I had the gaskets lubricated for the moonroof then 3 days later it wouldn't even slide back. Now the gasket got ripped off when I tried to slide.
Dealer is ordering new cables and gasket. TOld me he got it to open to diagnose now it won't close. THere is definitely a sunroof problem that is more than meets the eye
