HID kit on 2004 Solara V6 SE....good idea or not?

Postby dronek1975 » Mon Jan 12, 2009 9:46 pm

Hi I'm thinking about getting an HID kit for my 04 Solara. I have installed one on my 06 VW Passat about 2 years ago and i'm very happy with it. Is this good idea, any problems with blinding others etc. ? I have searched through old topics and not sure if it would work on Solara. I would like plug and play kit around 5K light output. Anyone?
Thanks

I don't know what this "Solata" is. :P All joking aside...

I think you could use the HID-specific housing and lights from the Gen 2.5 on your Gen 2 if you're so concerned about blinding others. :) May be pricey but honestly, the quality of the light output would be incredible.

Surely the topics you've found point to the fact that you can put HIDs in :-?

Go for it!!!

Your lucky though. You have the option to put in projectors. I have a Gen 1 and I have The Phillips HID kit, 6000K H4. If I wana put in projectors, which I do, I have to fabricate it. I got a couple high beam flashes from other drivers because they think I have my brights on. So I pointed the beam down just a little bit.

that i know without asking around here, bulb is bulb ain't?...what brand/kit to get for Solara and how it performs is basically what i would like to find out. Some say Solara projectors tend to blind while others claim it's totally fine with aftermarket HID kit. That's basically why i decided to ask again. You ask me about new Passat i say 100% safe and 100% "Go For It" with apexcone HID kit - cheap/reliable and You would get same answer on VW forums while here answers are mixed.

The Hid's will scatter a little. Mostly north and center over the cutout line.

I had them and swapped for the Gen 2.5 Projectors. Big difference. But the stock housings will do the job decently.

Here are the Gen2 housings with HID's.

if you are looking for HID see if you can find a kit with the d2r bulbs .. the r is for reflector, difference is that they have a shield on the top portion to create the cutoff line without a true projector.

^^^ I just stuck them straight into the existing housing... no modding... and they work fine. (No issues... but illumination is NOT as good on rainy nights!)

(Only get "flashed" from oncoming traffic ONCE in a rare while.)

G/L!

By just adding an HID kit to our stock headlights, you will have glare. Thats exactly what my previous post was pointing out. The light above the cutoff line is glare. And its significant.

You can help the light glare by covering up the squirl spotter slots in the shield. A lot of people put some jb weld in there cuase it can handle the heat. I'm thinking of doing that the next chance i get, but you gotta remove the headlights from the car to get a good angle on things.
