Junk dont waste your time and money

I was thinking of ordering the same thing. I don't like how the toyota keys are, i really want it in one whole thing. But if i get one i might not know how to program it.

I'll let you guys know how it goes....

Yeah I agree I'd much prefer having an all in one.

Ruski, do you have personal experience with these or what's the deal? I'm real cynical of eBay sellers myself, but if you tell someone not to waste their dough you gotta know they'll immediately ask why.

Well I got the switchblade key and it was a piece of cake programming it, it came with instructions. Tonight after work I decided to hop on over to Home Depot and have them cut the key. I gave the guy behind the counter the key, told him it was for an 04 Solara, and he said because it had a transponder they would not cut it! I told him I realized that it would unlock the car but not start it, but he still flat out refused! So I took it over to Lowes, the guy told me that it wouldn't start the car, etc. but would cut it. He started to set it up and said that he was unable to. Has anyone had one of these cut before? I really don't want to take it to the stealership.

Only the dealership can cut the keys this is why i said not to waste your time and money

I decided that after work today that I would try a locksmith before I went to the stealership. Went downtown and they cut the key no problem. I also had them cut me an extra house key while they were at it....cost me less than $5.00 total. When I got back to the 'lara I unlocked the door manually to see if it worked....no problem. Just for kicks I slipped it into the ignition and turned it....the car started right up! I drove it home with the new key in, and got to my mail box and shut the car off. When I went to restart it it turned over and didn't start, had to use the master key to start it. I did some research on SG and found a couple of ways to program a transponder key, neither of them worked.....so.....does anyone know if you can program a new transponder key for a Gen 2 Solara? If so, how?

Some places will refuse to cut your key...as you found out. We werent suppose to back at Walmart, but I did sometimes if I felt like it.

Either way, if you get it programmed and it works...I wouldnt rely on it as my master key JIC the transponder decides to die and not work for me. So in reality I dont want to clog up my key chain with these.

Hearing that just destroyed my faith in transponder security. So now I ask the question, why bother with this technology even if it works without a programmed key?

Thanks for the link....I tried that method several times and it didn't work for me. Called the local Toyota dealer, it would cost me $40.00 to have the key programmed, may end up having to do that.

The other two methods I tried are:

Insert Master key
Cycle on to off 5 times
Open and close door 6 times
Remover master, insert new key
Turn to "on"
New key registers after 60 seconds, theft light will go out

Close all doors and windows
Lock door with key
Unlock door with key
Insert key *don't turn on*, wait 15 seconds
Press brake pedal 5 times

There is some H.O.P.E. in Hearing Other People's Experiences, but there is no surer way to learn than by banging your own head against the wall, and sometimes, you have to bang it more than once.

I finally said "uncle" and scheduled an appt. at the stealership to have the key programmed next Friday..... $40.00, not as bad as I had thought....so for a total of +/-$67.00 I have a programmed remote and transponder key in one....not too bad

1. Start with the key out of the ignition, drivers door is open all others closed and
drivers door is unlocked.
2. Perform these steps within 5 seconds.
A. Insert the key into the ignition(Do NOT Turn) Pull key out.
B. Insert the key into the ignition(Do NOT Turn) Pull key out.
3. Perform these steps within 40 seconds.
A. Close then open the drivers door.
B. Close then open the drivers door.
C. Insert the key into the ignition(Do NOT Turn) Pull key out.
4. Perform these steps within 40 seconds.
A. Close then open the drivers door.
B. Close then open the drivers door.
C. Insert the key into ignition and leave it in ignition.
D. Close the drivers door.
E. Turn the ignition to ON (Do NOT Start) then back to OFF.
F. Remove the key from the ignition.
5. Within 3 seconds, the power door locks should lock then unlock automatically
indicating successful entry into programming mode.
Return to step 1 if the locks do not cycle at this point.
6. Perform these steps within 40 seconds.
A. Press the lock and unlock buttons on the remtoe simutaneously for 1.5 seconds.
B. Immediately after letting go of the lock and unlock buttons,
Press the lock button by itself and hold for 2 seconds. Within 3 seconds, the door
locks should lock and then unlock once indicating successful programming. If
the door locks cycle twice, repeat steps A and B in step 6 as the remote was
not accepted.
C. Repeat steps A and B in step 6 for each new remote.
7. Open drivers door.

Yes, these are the instructions that came with the key for programming the remote....worked like a charm. But when it comes to programming the transponder key I'm at a loss, which is why I have the appointment at the stealership.
