Go to an independent garage and stay with them during the time they change your belt. In Montreal, the garage I always go to charge me 350$ for timing belt and water pump.

Why stay with them in the garage while they are doing it? Worried that they wont change it and say that they did?!

^^

Cuz if you don't know them, it makes sure that they change it correctly and the job is done properly. They can't play you if you stay.

i ended up spending about 800 for it all. didn't empty out my pockets but it sure put my wallet on that coke diet. i feel like i put some sort of super aftermarket part on there though because boy does the car drive different!

Hehe, luckily I got the non-interference gen1 1mzfe! Even tough the timing belt breaks, it won't f*ck up my engine! :P

Yeah man you just have to take this route differently then doing the usual bs with going through the dealer cause they will over charge big time and it's not worth it! Do what me and yaddada did bought the parts from the dealer then take them to a trustworthy mechanic that's fairly priced.

You know changing the belts on your own would be cheaper. I don't know about the Gen 2 though. My cousin has a V6 camry so we change his belts for his second time pretty straight forward.... Mile on that thing is 200k+ and no issues. Car runs strong.... So I know I'll have my Lara for a while. Right now about 70k. Have to do my belts soon.

Yeah I do know that and myself personally am not mechanically inclined enough to do this type of job let alone the time which I don't have a lot of and this is my daily driver so I don't want to risk screwing up my transportation that gets me to and from work ya know.

Update: Found out my girlfriends mechanic friend can do it for me for ~$600 (belt, waterpump and labor). He already did a few Lexus and a 3.5L Camry Sport so that made me alot more confident than to use friends of mine who only done pseudo-similar jobs on their Harley or lawnmower.
