The computer in the Solara is built to learn how you drive, so it is still learning your driving habits, but if you want to have control over shifting, just use the manual shifting mode!

if I am at a dead stop and I floor it, the power comes on immediately. But when the car is moving at 35 mph and I floor it, there is a 1 second lag sometimes.

Its the drive by wire thing, its just how it works. Nothing defected or anything, its just the design flaw.

A manual transmission would be the better option if you are looking for good response.

The 4 speed auto tranny in my lara right now didn't really appeal to me at first because it doesn't downshift in downhills like my dad's 03 Accord V6 5 speed auto do. I like how its smooth though, no jerky stuff.

In terms of lagging, my car likes to not downshift when I press down the gas pedal, it likes to stay in that one gear during the turn. Thats one thing that I don't like about the 4 speed auto tranny.
