Hey solaraguys,

I bought a 2000 V6 Solara SLE (Cali Spec) in February and it drives good since then.

About a month ago I got a check engine light again (P1130 + P0171) which tell me the Air Fuel Sensor Bank 1 Sensor 1 needs to be replaced and this probably caused the system to be lean (P0171).

Furthermore, the car is at 103k now and my transmission fluid looks burnt like chocolate sauce. I really want to do something about it. But what would be the best to do?
I dont want to ruin my transmission by flushing and then setting free dirt parts which get stuck somewhere in the transmission and cause future problems.

Since Im just a College Student, I did only one DIY so far: Changing Spark Plugs and Wires. Was fun and easy, especially because Autozone borrowed me this super flexible ratchet.

Is changing the transmission fluid difficult?

So ok now one replied but Im updating.

Changed Spark Plugs, Wires and A/F sensor thanks to tutorials I found here. CEL is off, hope it remains so. Now I still have the transmission fluid left.

It looks burnt with ashes in it and Im scared Im gonna screw it up no matter what do. Any advice?

If your transmission is slipping or not responding as quick as it should be, only in that situation do a transmission flush. If not, just change the transmission fluid, as I'm guessin it has not ever been changed.

Have you tried a drain and fill?

No I havent done anything yet. Im scared that the new fluid will wash out old accumulated dirt and get stuck in the transmission fluid pathways. Same with a flush, I dont want any leaks to occur......
