Door/window Rattles and Clunks

Door/window Rattles and Clunks

Postby petemos » Thu Jul 15, 2010 8:42 am

I have a 05 convertible and the windows rattle allot when up. Every time i hit a bump/pothole etc they drive me crazy...I live on Long Island were we have LOTS of potholes. I am not looking forward to the winter when the windows will always be up. I am opening the doors in the next few weeks to put new speakers in. While i have them opened, is there anything i can do to reduce this. It is both the door windows and the rear windows. Any suggestions appreciated.

You can try dynomatt or try some of that spray insulation they sell at hardware stores.

Check the window bumpers. There are two of them attached to the bottom of the glass inside the door. When the window is up, they are held in place, but when the window is down, they can rattle if they are loose. You can see how to take the door apart in one of my audio threads (check the audio or the how-to section cause i forget where it is).

Ohh right ... convertable. Well my guess would be yes. Most frameless windows have some sort of a bumper to keep the window from going too high.

probably the bumper
mine was loose for the longest time until someone closed my pass door with the window down and it sounded like the window exploded
just tighten the bolt like sman said and it should be back to normal
(i dunno how tight though cuz i did not want to crack the glass, i did mine too loosely and its rattling again)

What brand and size of speakers are you going to install? I'm looking for aftermarket speakers shallow enough to fit in my doors also.

I am putting in polk momo 6x9s. I dont know if they will fit yet. I purchase a set of adapter plates off ebay that fit in the (larger ) hole in the doors and allow the mounting of the 6x9s with a 1" buildup (so they stick out about an inch to clear the windows. Some have done this with 3/4" wood hand crafted adapters. I wanted to save time. I will see how they work either this weekend or next.

You don't NEED an adapter. I put 6x9's on both my doors just fine. They fit just enough to be secure with three screws haven't had any problems and I installed them 4 years ago.
