As a pack and a half a day smoker, I must say that one thing that really pisses me off about my Solara is that water rushes in my car during the rain even if my windows are cracks an inch! The unfortunate thing is that I doubt they'll make rainguards since their is no top portion of the door frame...just the window! Arrggghhh!

First they remove the ashtrays, now this. Hmm, ya think it's a conspiracy against smokers? ;-)

Being a non-smoker, I hadn't taken notice of the lack of an ash tray and rain guards. But I can see where a person who does smoke would find these important accessories. This is an interesting point.

I'm not trying to be a smart a$$ and I certainly have my own issues to deal with (over weight), but have you tried to quit? My mom use to smoke. After the doctor told her she had cancer, she gave it up. But it wasn't easy for her. I've tried to stop eating snacks at night. I can't do it.

Surefire way to stop eating snacks at night-stop buying them and buy fruit or veggies instead. Better to munch on an apple. That's good for you and the whole family with all the reports these days of overweight kids.
Remember, if it's not there, you can't eat it and you're not too often going to run out at night just to buy them.

i agree with fotodad, and once again, its none of my business, but maybe you could use the solara as your motivation to help you quit. im sure you dont want the inside of your car to get wet, so just dont smoke at least while its raining 8)

I smoked a pack a day... and quit in April 2003. Its been 9 months, and not a single cigarette. In fact, this is my fist smoke free car ever.

91 Camry... cigarette burns EVERYWHERE.
99 Solara SLE... 2 cigarette burns(both in the backseat when my cigarettes flew back in the window and into the back seat, boy did I ever slam on my brakes... one actually managed to get under the mat)
02 Solara SLE... only one burn, again in the backseat.
03 Corrola S... ummmmm, not one freekin burn mark.
04 Solara SLE... DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT GETTING IN MY CAR WITH A CIGARETTE!!!

I'll tell you this, I am not an anti smoker... but I feel so much better health wise... I dont run out of breathe, I dont cough anymore, and well... I did put on some weight... your metabolism drops like a rock. The first month was the hardest... but trust me. You get over it.

I used the Commit Cough drop lozenges for almost 3 months, and they worked like a charm... really kept my crazings to a minimum.

Anywho... this feels like a AA meeting... but hey, quit when you are ready... and quit for YOURSELF. Doing it for someone else almost never works.

With a lit cigarette inside the car, the seats getting wet is the least of your worries.

Smoker here...Are these lozenges over the counter? I just tried using the patch and unfortunatley, it caused heart palpatations...So the patch is a no go and now my doctor is hesitant to prescribe anything similar, Nicorettes, or even Zyban....

And as a smoker, for whatever it's worth....The flooding that happens when you open the window in this car bugs the crap out of me, so I just crack the passenger window when I smoke...and since I don't toss my butts out the window, this really isn't much of an issue unless I'm pulling up to the ATM or drive up convenience store.

I have a similar problem in my cam. I've found that if I run my hand along the sil at the top where there's a kind of rain gutter, it breaks the surface tension or whatever and makes it follow that rather than in the window. I'm pretty sure the solara has the same sort of groove.

I am a smoker, but don't want the interior to reak like my last car. So i just smoke before getting in the car, and after i get out. It's like clockwork now.

You can Follow Jims Advice or do what i used to do in my other solara, If you have a MoonRoof, get a wind deflector and open the roof enough that the rain doesnt get in the car, I'm doing the same thing Jims doing. Smoking outside. Plus its helping me quit smoking, rather spend the money on the car, the car is no good to you when your dead :)
