5.5 psi pulley for TRD S/C

5.5 psi pulley for TRD S/C

I noticed that on pulleyboys.com the 5.5 psi pulley was pretty cheap. How much more horsepower does the pulley give you and is it too much stress on the stock internals? Those of you who have it, , have you blown a knock sensor? Thanx...

5.5 with safc will be at the limit for stock internals...

Yep... You'll also need Jim's fuel line upgrade kit and a cooler thermastat (like the 160 TRD T-Type Thermastat). :fadein:

Check this link. You'll have to extrapolate a little.

I don't mean to contradict another forum member but the thermostat is not as important as the fuel line upgrade and regulator adjustment.

I've got the 5.5 pulley, but I'm not putting it on until I get all of these installed.
- Jim's fuel kit (intsalled)
- Trd radiator cap (installed)
- Trd thermostat
- Koyo aluminum radiator (or the other one Greg found with 2 row)
- hyper ground system (or MSD DIS-4, but I think it's probably unnessary)
- Supra injectors
- Walbro 190lph fuel pump
- Magnecor wires (NGK would probably be good enough)
- Denso IK22 plugs
- HV oil pump
- oil cooler kit
- remote oil thermostat
- oil catch can
- get a Toyota major service done (almost @60k anyways, but will be better for the dyno)
- and last but not least, S-AFCII (installed and dyno-tuned :P )
- NOT doing the fuel regulator mod, based on JoeB's advice/experience.

I know that some of these things are probably unessasary, but I'm not taking any chances. If there's anything else, let me know. I plan on keeping this ride, so I'm trying to everything I can because I don't plan on to do any major motor work.

afterall, it's all depends on how many miles on ur car, how hard do you step to ur ride.

I'm just running pretty baisc thing with 5.5 with my ride

- trd s/c with 5.5
- safc dyno tuned 200hp 210 tq at the wheel

i always do my maintence ontime..i had the charger with the 5.5 for quite a while and run as good as the day i got it on. Oh yes, i'm a daily driver and I DO step my ride to 4k everyday...NO PROBLEM!

astro, if you are doing all of that, why not go ahead and step the boost up past 5.5?

This should explain why he does not want to go past 5.5 lbs of boost.

From a seat of your pants dyno, it was ALOT for me. I installed it with no other fuel mods and within 30 minutes, blew the front knock sensor (93 octane).

I imagine it was due to the lean condition that many 1mzfe's have in the front bank, which maybe also explains why it seemed to be running so balls out at first or maybe the computer did not have ample time to adjust and retard the timing yet.

Not all 1mz react the same, sort of a crap shoot, if I did it again, I'd upgrade the fuel system first.

Peak Torque Increase *
+70 Horsepower

+50 Horsepower (197 stock vs. 247 S/C)

+25 lb.ft. (217 stock vs. 242 S/C)

* more torque @ 2000 RPM than the normally-aspirated engine at stock torque peak @ 4400 RPM !!!

Why such a large difference in the numbers??
With your mods shouldn't they (the numbers) be higher?
Got Boost?? :sweet:

Yes Spadwaller... You wouls need a smaller belt to compensate for the smaller pulley. Or else the Supercharger pulley will be slipping.

I asked Rizal the same question and he told me I'd be fine using the same belt. Now, if the go past 6 I would get a smaller belt.

Upgrading the pulley is an inexpensive way to increse your horsepower, but I would save your money and go the route Astro is going. If your going to do something you should go all out and do it right or not do it at all. It will work out a whole lot better for you and your car in the long run.
