.....forget it, it came back on. I'm going to reverse the wires and see if that helps.

bunthy, i have a 97 camry and am in the same boat as you. Any chance you know how to wire up a safc? just wondering. I'd like to know what wire splice/cut worked for you since I might be doing the same for my car soon.

Update:

Ok so I tried wiring it again. My knock sensors are located on plug E9. Pin 14 and Pin 15.

I cut 14 and spilced it to pin 15 (same as Pin 27 to Pin 28 ) .

I notice the throttle response is much better. I haven't taken it on the highway yet, as thats when the CEL came on when spilced it the other way. Hopefully this will solve the problem.

Castro: I 've hadn't any experience wiring the safc yet, but I would think its the same. If you need a wiring diagram, check out Toyotanation. Those guys might point to the right direction in terms of gettign a wiring diagram. If not get a pic of the safc wiring diagram and which ECU type (4 plug or 5 plug) and send them my way. I can take a look and give my 2cent.

I had to reverse the re-wire as well and it has worked for me for over a year. That is rough to be blowing knock sensors with 4psi, you are totally sure somebody didn't have a smaller pulley already on the S/C.

Good luck.

My pully says TRD pully says 3.2 but I read somewhere that the orig stock was 3.4.

Bunthy, So you just cut the 14 wire and tapped the 14pin wire into 15 so that both pins would be reading off the same wire? I'm not getting any knock sensor problems, but want some insurance before I start hammering it on the track.

I tried TN for the SAFC and no help. I used the apex-i manual for the Mark II 1MZ as well as the windom diagram and both are no go.

yeah. I got the blower brand new. The pulley says TRD 3.4 on it. I know its weird that it would give a CEL. Just now, on my way to work, when I was just stoping waiting for the green light, the car turned off and the CEL came on. I turn the key again to start the engine and it was gone....weird......

yeah, on plug E9, pin 14 and 15, their clear. I cut 14 off and use teh portion going to the harness to tap into pin 15. The other half thats going to the engine, I capped off with a twist cap.

Try the camry manual:

ok another update.

Ok, you know how I said the pin was on plug E9? Yeah, its true. The only thing now, is that I had my friend print me out a 96 avalon diagram, and it had teh wires on plug E7, which is the same as E9 on the camry. So just wanna let others know.

Oh also, the CEL was diagnosed and it WASN'T the KNOCK SENSOR. It was actuall P-0401, 'insufficent airflow to EGR" Wheewww thank goodness cause I did the wire mod on both wires and still got a CEL. Good thing it was somethign else!

I'm so stressed out now, I just wanna boost with everything being safe!

haha, good thing im lazy and didnt do it right away. I actually got that same CEL and it was the placement of that weird floater thign inline with the EGR hose to the rack. Seems like it would move, bend the hose at times then the code pops up. I just used 2 zipties to secure it to the fuel rails like the manual said to and re did the hoses for best flow. BAM no problems or CELs after that.

zip ties.....I should do that too! I usually infamous for using it everywhere :P

I think next I'm going to try and route the hoses like its shown in the update EBC diagram (with the T connector and the plastic reducers.)

hey bunthy, how does the old hose route feel? I read in an old post by Vampire that the older way actually is more agressive since it boost based on load. The new way is based on load as well as RPM since it treats the S/C like the old N/A valve thing we used to have. let me know, I'm thining of trying out the orig hose layout.

Bah.. I know I'm late chiming in on this. I'm saving money for Jim's Fuel Mod (the $200 one). But atm my CEL is on most of the damn time(95%) along with the limp mode. I just found this thread and thought about doing this re-wiring business. But is there any danger for Bank #1 if I proceed with it? If Anything. I can always reconnect when I get Jims fuel mod right??

Great.. i pulled off the glove box and realized I have a 4 Plug ECU... for the 97 (and 98 Non Cali spec) camry, 98 cali spec and all 99 and up have 5 plug. You guys said they are clear wires right? So it should still be E9? I saw some clear wires but wanted to find a diagram before I got to splicing around... :agrue:

EDIT: nvm.. found my own answer rereading the posts. Now I'm hopefully off to go pick up a magnaflow exhaust system

EDIT2: Check Engine Light went off by itself after about 20 min of driving or so, and I'm happily boosting around... Jim's Fuel Upgrade is coming ASAP still. but at least now i can drive my darn car "normally" again. Thanks guys.

so your saying that you don't have a 'limp' problem anymore? lol j/k

glad your back to normal! My CEL went off too but ti was somethign else....vacuum line routing. Since there was no diagram for a 96 ava, I had to play around a bit. So far its good, but I think I really need the trd 1way valve...just for insurance. If anyone has a spare, pm me.

So Sean, you still thinking about getting the new Si?
