2 questions RE: fuel pump & intercooler

Postby grnsolara » Mon Aug 09, 2004 9:25 pm

I have 2 questions for under one topic to save space for other people's questions.

1. I had someone begin installing the 190 lph Walbro fuel pump on my 2000 solara. The directions require cutting a metal pipe 1/4 inch. My pipe is plastic and the installer said even if the plastic pipe is cut that the pump will still not fit in the tank. Can anyone offer me some specific installation instruction for help me troubleshoot? Thank you.

2. Has anyone put an intercooler into their s/c Solara, and how much of a difference would it make?

Thank you,
grnsolara

Actually, the pump fits fine, at least on my car. Once you try to seat the entire unit it will wobble slightly, but it torques down perfectly with no leaking.

ah yes. precoolers.

i've heard of those a long time ago, but unfortunately i've never researched on that.

i think those are geared for roots type. I THINK....

personally, just stick with a cold air intake.

they do make intercoolers for big block chevys.. they call it an "ice box"... it sits inbetween the S\C and the heads.. and u put a block of dry ice in it... the "ice box" doesn't put air into the S\C.. just cools the heads basically... it makes the S\C sit up higher 2

I have seen a Intercooler on a roots style blower. They turn it upside down and then put on an IC.

It is possible, i doubt it on our application.

I don't know about the upside down S/C but this is the reason why I'm looking for a used S/C for the 1MZ-FE. Roots type S/C with intercooler for the Hyundai.

So that intercooler basically cools the SC and not the actual intake charge?

They turn the supercharger upside down so you can get inbetween the SC and the engine. They route the output of the SC up front to a IC which then passes it back and into the engine.

Its not feasible on our cars, but i've seen it done on a mid 90s thunderbird

It does cool down the intake charge just before it enters the motor. I contacted Alpine Industries and they said that there are new plans to make a custom cooler for our S/C. :(

Rizal, did you mean to say they have "no" plans to make a custom cooler for our S/C or "new"? If new, then :D . If no, then :( . -JoeB
