Dissapointed Dyno Numbers

Dissapointed Dyno Numbers

Postby Yanks0114 » Sun Jan 02, 2005 5:32 pm

I got my car dynoed a week ago and i was very dissapointed by the numbers. I have a 2001 v6 with TRD s/c @ 4psi, apexi exhaust, and KN filter

I'll scan the graphs soon but my best run was 195FWHP and 175tq
I did blow a knock sensor at the dyno so i wonder if that affected performance. I expected to break 200FWHP

I was the first toyota the place i went to had ever done. They specialize in chevy and ford vehicles. They did give me respect for my car but i wish i could have broked 200hp.

The car was run in 3rd gear btw

...scans soon

Its 200hp and 212tq but thats at the crank
My numbers are at the wheels

The huge limiting factor is the auto tranny. I'd estimate drivetrain loss to be 25%+

HP isn't that far off from my goal, but from the other dyno results my tq is very low which is why i think my knock sensor may have been shot on the first run

I have upgraded plugs (IK22s)
I'm pretty much decided i'm done with performance mods for the car unless i can get a really good deal.

No SAFC.
I am not running lean so i'm not sure where the fuel upgrades come into place unless i wanted to run high boost.

I think i'm done with performance for a while on this car

i got 181whp at the wheels and all i have is CAI and 4psi s/c. so with proper tuning of a safc i'd say you can break the 200 very easily.

i have a 98 auto also.

Those numbers are just about right for an automatic s/c Camry Solara. Those are still good numbers. Congrats. Maybe an intake and SAFC II will help you break your goal of 200 WHP.

Hey Yanks, I feel ya man. I dyno'd my car years ago and couldn't break 190 let alone 200 :drinking: Unfortunately, based on what I've seen, the lower than expected HP results are typical. However, your TQ numbers do look off quite a bit.

Here's my chart. My only mod is an SAFC-I.

Here's another person's charts with an SAFC-I aswell. It took them 5 runs to break 200.

Hey

Did you retard the timing enough for the boost? With boost you need to do a little retarding, oddly enough, to gain HP. It sounds like your knock sensor was not able to do enough retarding for the boost. This would definitely effect power output.

I have just about everything you have on your Camry, except I have a plamsa booster and a tuned safc and I got 206 to the wheels.
Here's a link for info and pics of my 1999 Camry:
