Failed my SMOG test

Failed my SMOG test

Does everybody pass the emission's test with their s/c?
I failed big time, but I kinda thought I might. I was hoping to have them just do the obII check, but my battery had died this morning and it would not communicate. They said that you have to drive a bit for the sensors to register. OK? So everything probably went back to factory specs.
I was like 480% over on HC's, 143% over on CO's and 180% over on NOx!!
Would that make me a gross polluter.
So I guess the CP-e is making me run a bit rich.
I'm just hoping that it's not the cat.

Mods are as follows:
TRD SC w/5.5 pulley, CP-e, and JPP Exhaust.
Fuel upgrades have been done.

The good part is it's going on the dyno this week. I just have to check over my connections on the CP-e.

I should have already had this done when the weather was warmer. Oh well.

Any suggestions?
Got Boost?? :sweet:

Most likely not the SC but the CPE. SC do not lean the car or runs pig rich because your car is not under boost on the smog test. CPE is design for maximum power. I would check that. Any fuel tuning stuff? Check those too.

Just the CP-e.

When I get on it really hard, I see a large black cloud from where I came.
I figured it to be the CP-e, thus the dyno appointment this week.
I know that the JPP cat have had problems in the past. But, I think that they have addressed that.
Just checking around to see if everybody passes smog. And I don't want to hear from those that don't need to pass smog.
Oh, how I love Wisconsin.

^^^
Hit it on the head...definitely running rich. Your car will thank you once the dyno tune has been done. Has the car been tuned since you've done all the fuel mods?? If it hasn't, that's probably the main reason why you failed. I put off dynoing my car once all the fuel mods were done, was running extremely rich, don't know why I ever waited so long. You'll be all set once you get it in the shop this week tho.

And yes, I pass smog. Like Dat said, it's done at idle, not under boost. My guess is the fuel mods, but the intake can have an effect as well.

White smoke is not always rich. Its either pig rich or lean. I have seen lean cars puff out black smoke too on dyno (My car 4 times in a row.).

Running 5.5 psi without any tuning can be fast but they are not pushing the car hard enough IN MY OPINION to fail with that. Like turbosolara says, it could be your cat, or your CPE, but not your SC. You can try throw on a 4 psi and maybe it will lower the output airflow enough to pass.

I'm checking to confirm my connections on the CP-e MAF Customizer. As soon as I feel that is wired correctly, I will then get it dynoed asap (Mon-Tue)
I bought an BR3 OBDdiagnostics OBDII Scantool for my laptop to get any codes. They were recommended by URD.
And pray to God I pass next weekend.
In the past those with the JPP cat have passed successfully. If I have issues with that, I will contact JPP and I'm sure they will stand behind it.
Thanks for all of your input....to be continued.

or...if u think lowering the boost is gonna solve problems, just leave the wastegate port open (the bar that the actuator moves)

run a stimulator still not helping you passing somg, it just get rid off the check engine light. you might have to put back your stock exhaust to do the smog

Get the simulator and put it on...that's what I ended up doing, just note tho that it will take the simulator a couple of days to remove the CEL
