Coolant Fan Switch Mod

Coolant Fan Switch Mod

Postby RON » Mon May 04, 2009 10:07 am

I swaped to TRD thermostat (160) and now want to lower the temperature range on the fan swith (live in So Cal with SC car). Any tips? I would love to just *bolt on* a mod rather than reprogram the ECM.

Thanks
Ron

Hmmm im not sure if Toyota's fan switch sensor is the same style as Hondas but you should be just able to unscrew it out from the rad and swap it with one that turns the fans on earlier.

I did this to both my S2000 and honda Fit but never found the need to swap it on my Camry. I too have the TRD 160* Thermo and TRD rad cap

I believe that that the toyota switch is built into the ecu

but you can pick up an aftermarket coolant temp probe designed for use with aftermarket fans and use that as a switch for your oem fans

That's what I would do - the only time you need to over-ride the OEM setting.
Anything over 35 mph the fan doesn't do anything.

If you have a TRD thermostat for 160 (oem 180), wouldn't you want to also lower the range of the FAN as well, so it turns on maybe 5 degrees ABOVE the thermostat (in this case around 165)?

yup...if you want everything to be automated, I agree.

as for the switch- I have one as well and I turn off my fan on the highway as well since it doesn't help at that point.

so with the switch in place, would the fan still work automatically when the switch is off?

I would imagine that if you just left the switch in the "on" position it would just run like normal. THe only thing the switch would do is cut the power to the fan.
