Dyno info...must read

Postby RON » Tue Sep 15, 2009 10:47 pm

I found this Turbo Mag (dated 2003?) article. It compares results of various dynos on the SAME Car..a 2003 350Z Stock. It was rated by the factory (ie. flywheel) @ 287 HP and 274 Torque. Check out these #s...btw, they have a DYNAPACK chart!! :D (same one I used along with Frank and Bob). By the looks of the results I, as well as Frank and BOB, have MORE HP than the 2003 350Z!

Here's the article:

http://www.turbomagazine.com/tech/0306tur_turbo_magazine_dyno_dash/index.html

Turbo Magazine Dyno Dash Comparison Chart
Dyno HP TQ
Dynapack 249.4 242.8
DTS 257.6 XXXX
Dynojet (Win) 235.8 227.8
Dynojet (DOS) 243.7 237.2
Clayton 265.7 240.6
Super Flow 228.9 226.6

Dynapack of 2003 350Z (same dyno used on my car..Franks and Bobs):

Using those results and given the rated (flywheel) HP of the test car...it's a safe bet that our Dynapack results point to *around* 40HP more to the flywheel. Certainly within 30HP.

good numbers for the setup for sure!

The only thing that i would mention is that just because you might take it up to a higher rpm (so why didn't they take it to redline again???) it doesn't necessarily equate to more hp. It would be only presuming the fact that your torque continues to increase. Bit with over stock boost and high rpms, along with an incomplete fuel system, and lack of headers, there is a very good chance that power would be on it's way back down due to those restrictive factors.

Next time you go, have them run the car full out andnlet us know!

You might be right on gaining any more HP above the 6K (although the HP curve was still RISING). It really doesn't matter to me. You can see what 350Zs (earlier models) are getting, so I know at a minimum, I have the same FlyWHP..280+. I also have the torque # (260ft lb) which pretty much *says it all*. :D

oh, no doubt when it comes to comparing to the previous generation VQs.

once we go boost on a 5-speed and up the boost a bit, we can easily keep up, if not take them out quite easily!

Here's another comparision (I like to compare  ). SAME DYNO..Dynapac! This is comparison Dyno in itself...Cobalt SS SC Stage 2 vs SS Turbo (new model). I was looking to get the Turbo a while back, but decided to keep my Camry SC instead. The Turbo is rated at 260 HP (Factory Flywheel). A stage 2 kit for the SC is rated a bit less. Anyway...here is the dyno of the two:

HP is 238 Turbo vs 227 SC and 258 Ft Lbs Turbo vs 203 SC. My Camry SC fared pretty well I's say....+20 HP over Cobalt Turbo.

Image

BTW, the Turbo can easily be staged up to 350HP :o

Nice discussion with pics to show how Dynapac hooks up:

Yep Stock fuel system.

Dynapack info at Church Facility from Dyno Day:

Wide-band Air-Fuel Sampling>>>>

The AF readings for this particular setup is approx. 0.7-1.0 point higher than the pre-cat location.

A/F BONE STOCK Infinity G35 2004:

Take another look at my A/F..below 13 for most of 4600 up and this is an A/F which is HIGHER than a typical pre cat wide band would *read*

Just noticed something..I first Dynoed at AREA 51..the place mentioned here that used the Clayton! My set up was the SAME as now and I got 261 WHP on the Clayton. BUT.....that dyno reads HIGH on this data... around 15 HP MORE than the Dynapack! If that's the case, the results of that Dyno may have been LESS than what I just got on the Dynapac..the equivalent of 246HP on the Dyanapac. I just got 258 HP on that one. The results may be *higher* now since I blew a knock sensor on the Clayton dyno PLUS..I got fuel enrichment on the Dynapack. I read on an old post from *Ericsol* that mentioned that the Clayton was *very generous* with HP reading compared to others. Interesting :D .

RON wrote:260LBs Torque (@4200rpm) and 258HP (@6000RPM). CHURCH said if I had completed the run to 6400RPM I would have hit around 275-280HP. I don't know what RPM Frank and Bob ran to on their runs. They got 272HP and 285 HP repspectively. Can't reascall torque either. I'll check and post here.

We enriched the fuel from AF 14 to AF 13 and gained 11 Ft lbs :D . He used my Apexi to do that in about 5 seconds...no charge!

TORQUE and HP: Red is before enrichment Green after
Image

Torque and AF before and after enrichment. Kept under 13 between 4700 and 6000RPM after. Note: A/F readings are in the TAIL PIPE and are .7-1.0 HIGHER than a PRE-CAT WIDE BAND reading.

Image

This is HP to the HUBS, which around 15-20 HP LESS than to the Flywheel and MORE than 5-10 HP than a DYNOJET would read.

My new 09 Cobalt SS. Turned out car was ALREADY tuned when I got it! (Green lines)..I then retuned it (BLUE lines).
