Hi All,

My 2003 Solara SLE Auto is recently boosted to 4psi. It was installed by Gregtrd and it ran fine with everything else bone stock + tranny cooler.

After a few days, I installed my INJEN. I got a CEL (P0171, P0174). And then I tried putting the CAI extension. Still giving me the same CEL.

I did some research, some hypothesized that it could be the AFR is leaned out because I have a thicker pipe at the MAF sensor, and the sensor doesn't know about it, therefore the Air Fuel mixture is leaned because of excessive air. I'm not sure if this was the reason, but it sounds reasonable to me.

I'm wondering if anyone has encountered the same problem, and how you solved it? I do want to utilize the INJEN and CAI.

Installed:
I have only SC at 4psi (no EBC), tranny cooler, INJEN + CAI.
I also have a Jim's fuel mod waiting for me to install.

Other Symptoms:
Before I get the CEL, if I'm at idle or a full stop, I hear sharp clicking noise from the S/C, on top of the regular noise. Once the CEL is on, it doesn't have that noise anymore.

how come the EBD isn't installed? (does it matter whether or not the EBC is installed?)

no it doesnt matter whether the ebc is installed. I think you should slap the fuel mod in and see if that takes care of it.

can you take some video of the car at idle making that noise?

Is that a *lean code*? Anyway...shouldn't throw a cell with Injen short ram ( I have it on with my SC)..same with CAI I think. Make sure MAF is on tight and sitting properly in the pipe. Double check ALL clamps as well.

Yes, that is a lean code, on both front and rear bank. I have checked all hoses, and I also cleaned the MAF sensor twice, and no luck.

I will install the Jim's Fuel Mod this week when I have time, and see if the code goes away, and I will also try to record the noise this weekend if it doesn't go away after the mod.

if the fuel mod doesn't take the lean codes away, then uninstall the intake and go back to stock just to MAKE SURE that it's the intake that is causing the code and then go from there again

I don't think that mod will help at all...in fact would be very surprised if it did (I have Jim's mod). Seems to be a problem reading air flow. Did you clear the CEL? May take a couple of drive cycles if you haven't. What's with the *noise*..you didn't mention that?

I did clear the CEL many times. It just comes back whenever my car is hot and I'm at idle.

I borrowed my friend's MAF sensor cleaner and cleaned it twice, didn't help. I don't think it's the MAF sensor.

That noise I mentioned sounds kinda like a supercharger noise, but at a higher pitch. I don't know how to explain it... It sounds like "geek geek geek geek..." a little like a gear slipping. I will try to capture a video of it if possible, but it goes away when the CEL is on.

LOL Definitely get a sound clip. Anyway, I had the same problem without the intake when my SLE was boosted so I doubt it's the intake.

lol I don't know how to type a sound... So, how did you resolve your problem?

I wouldn't know which one of these resolved my problem (if any) but I changed the plugs, wires, K&N filter, did the timing belt, and water pump. Before swapping my supercharger to my 5 speed I still had the CEL but it was for an O2 sensor. Maybe I'm not a good reference point.

ADVICE: If you want to do things the RIGHT way then you need to get an AFC (for the least) which will only modify your air to fuel ratio via a dyno tune. This will all cost money but its better than running lean and blowing your motor. My 2 cents.

Installed the Jim's Fuel Mod this morning... I still got the same CEL...
I wonder what else I could do... change back to stock intake? change my fuel pump?

my idle seems to be a little higher than it should be -> around 800RPM instead of 700RPM is there anywhere I could tweak the idle? I've already re-washed my throttle body yesterday morning. I wonder if something is wrong with my IAC...

800 rpm idle is high...something is up for sure. Put your stock intake back in for starters then either clear the code or dive for several *cycles* (start ups when COLD is one cycle..may take 3 cycles).
