Question about TRD EGR tubes?

Question about TRD EGR tubes?

Postby 99BlackSandv6 » Wed Feb 24, 2010 9:09 pm

Wassup,

I was just wondering, why is the TRD EGR tube different for the manual vs. automatic?
They both use the same charger, the same exhaust manifold and EGR manifold.
I'm guessing there is something on the firewall? I can't think of any way
that the EGR tube would be affected by the transmission.
I'm just curious, so if you know the reason, please let me know.

thanks,

Ben, 99BlackSandv6 8)

OK. Thanks! :sweet:

My next question, why is it different?
Sorry if this is a stupid question, I'm just trying to understand
why the EGR is different between manual and auto.
I mean, could you just buy a SC with either tube and make it
work by switching the cooler. Might be easier than sourcing
the correct tube...or maybe not.

The deasign is different, and I have no flippin clue as to why. My friend with a SC Gen 4 5-speed swapped to an Auto EGR cooler to use the Auto tube he had.

The bottom one is the auto egr from TRD with the flex.
The other is the standard auto egr tube.
What the flex is for is beyond me but I'm no engineer.
You could easily bend the standard to fit the charger.
One would have to be very patient to do so, but if it's your only alternative.
But it can be done.
Got Boost?? :sweet:

Really?? I never thought of that. Good point.
You must be the engineer.
What is going to flex between the charger and the cooler bolted to the engine.

the difference between the auto and manual egr tube is that the manual egr tube stays closer to the engine block at the bottom so that the egr tube doesn't touch the shifter cables and burn or melt them. the auto egr tube sticks out a bit more but not much, the auto cable stays further away for the egr tube. when i swap my auto to manual transmission i left the auto egr tube and it still cleared the manual cables, so it all about clearance. as for the flex pipe section of the egr tube from all chargers installs that i've done the only thing i can think of is that it make it easier to install the tube.
