Reason why a larger MP90 S/C will be AMAZING on the 1mz-fe

Some tech info for you guys regarding roots type S/C's.

I'm only talking about positive displacement superchargers in this thread, no centrifugical blowers (Vortech, Rotrex, etc), that's a whole other topic.
It's general knowledge that supercharged Toyota's don't make much power and have serious heat issues. There are a couple of reasons, mostly having to do with the blowers that are available to put on a Camry/Solara or any 1mz-fe car. The biggest available is an Eaton/Magnuson TRD MP62, which is made to push about 7-8 PSI and makes around 300whp on a 5 speed car with bolt ons. If you push that much PSI and make around that much WHP, then it works great. If you try to do more, then the efficiency drops off until it stops making power and just makes a lot of heat. It's the same for a small turbo, and anyone that can read a compressor map can figure it out pretty quickly. Just like a turbo, if you use a compressor that is efficient at higher PSI's and flows enough air for more WHP, then it will make more power efficiently.

so Gabe with this larger charger whats the highest boost you can run? and to keep it cooler is there anyway to be intercooled? or would the stage 3 with the meth help to do that?

^ i'm pretty sure it'll be a bigger problem having our 1mzs handle the power rather then the mp90 handle the boost. i've seen cars w/ the same s/c setup intercooled so there is a way to actually intercool it. from the research i've done and from most of gabe's words i'd assume this kit is good for roughly 12-15psi not intercooled, sound about right gabe? but at that point you'd be around +400whp =O

for intercooling a simple water/air core placed directly under the charger would do the job nicely! better imo would be using laminova water/air cores stacked in the manifold!

The mazda6/Ford Fusion supercharger uses an aftercooler but has the same hood clearance issues.

very true, but with hood clearance already an issue on this, it would just sit that much higher

or you could use laminova intercooler cores inserted into the manifold... would not change height plus they are super efficient water air cores!

Interesting this one is for a NSX.

Because we are spinning this mp90 so slow using a much larger than TRD s/c pulley , outlet temps should be greatly reduced over the trd s/c . I am hoping with a decent meth kit we can run a 10-12 psi pulley safely, without blowing purely hot air. I could have easily incorporated an intercooler setup into this kit using the air to water cores, the only problem is it would jack up the price of the kit, which would create a problem for me when it comes time to sell kits.

Gabe, I understand that Frank's auto car can take this charger with no issues and he will be able to throw almost anything at it without hurting the motor, now for someone who wants to slap this on a stock motor with regular bolt on's it would cause a great amount of damage because of the larger displacement right? I think you mentioned this charger is 30% larger than our m62's

so this wouldnt be recomended for a stock motor car because if you slap a 4psi pulley im assuming this will peak anywher between 6-7psi, and thats already pushing the motor

I had a m90 on my 1mz which was peaking at about 9psi although this was intercooled.

The MP90 kit will work well on a stock engine also, you just have to be careful how much boost you run. I can supply any psi pulley the customer wants.

thanks

The funny thing is that there's 2 Thunderbird S/C's here in OKC at a salvage yard. lol. :evilbat:

Yeah just build a custom intake manifold and you can use that thunderbird m90 no problem :)

the thinderbird blower is perfect. i put one on a celica a while back, made 10psi free revving
