question on boost and pulleys

question on boost and pulleys

Not sure how to word the subject of this thread but I'll try to clarify in my thread. I know with superchargers that if you do breathing mods it removes restriction for the engine and therefore your boost level will drop. So if you were running a 5.5 pulley and your mods cause the boost to be less than 5.5, would it be alright to run a smaller pulley to regain the lost boost? I guess what I'm wondering is that the breathing mods actually take away strain from the engine right? Therefore it would be ok to run more boost since you've alleviated some of the load on the engine. I've never really seen this addressed on here before so I thought I'd bring it up.

i'll find out when I dyno, but was also curious. Judging from the response my thread got, looks like nobody here really knows the answer.

So I guess it's possible to run smaller pulleys and still run lower amounts of boost if one has the right breathing mods

A 4lb pulley will still be a 4lb pulley, the only difference is that you'll get a higher boost spike at higher rpms with stock exhaust then if you had headers and cat back.

Yes, they will all spike at their rated Psi, near wot ...question is if youre willing to deal with .5-1 lb less boost the rest of the time. I'm not. I intend on seeing my 6.5 spike around 6 - 6.5 lb, given my boost drop with the headers. We'll see once I start tuning.
