WHOLE BUNCH OF BOOST QUESTIONS!!

Hey,

I don't know if you guys recognise me, but im still a tyre kicker at this point, however the plan is to turbo my Gen4 Camry 1MZ.
I did a lot of research a while back and learned a lot, and then got too excited spending my money on other things that aren't my car.
The last thing i did before getting distracted was disasembling my engine and removing my pistons and rods.

I'm now back to finish the job. I just bought a decent deal from gabe for a set of JE pistons 88mm 9.5CR ceramic coated, with eagle 22R rods and all the related bearings. Also in the process of getting 2 pairs of 2MZ intake cams, the rest of my parts list should be pretty easy to track down though. Just getting bit by bit, trying to not spend my money on other crap and get the work rolling on this car.

All crap asside:

Does anyone have some tangible data on the 1MZ's BSFC? I need some more accurate numbers to get my turbo sizing down pat. Tony gave me some really awesome advice last year on garrett turbos, but i want to understand what is going on and i found a nifty little sizing app on BorgWarners' website. BW have also released a new range of what look to be seriously awesome turbo's, so im just playing around with sizing.

Stock manual trannys, pushing past the 450whp barrier am i going to have issues?

Axles, CV shafts etc, are they going to keep up?

And another big concern is camshafts, are these 2MZ ones going to be good enough or am i still going to be strangled at high rpms? I have a n/a 1MZ MR2 friend looking at getting some custom shafts done, and im wondering if its going to be worth it to get some for myself as well.

Only a handful of people on these boards have actually pushed these cars enough to have informed answers (GABE, TONY etc) But ill take anything at this point.

For now, Trent is running a stock E153 transmission (no lsd yet) , and stock axles. Time will tell how long they will hold up.I do now there are a handful of people including Tony that are over 700whp on the stock E153 transmission. If you are going with a single disk clutch, make sure you email me befor eyou buy one. There is only a couple of single disk clutches in the world that will handle 500+whp. Don't buy a regular act clutch is will last approx 5 minutes with the amount of power you plan to make. You may end up needing to just buy a twin disk right off the bat depending on what your power goals are.

Tony is going to be the guy to talk to about which turbo you should choose. Precision has come really nice GT35 and GT42 Turbo I have used in the past. Priced very well.

We are running Tein coilovers, whiteline sway bars, Energy suspension and superpro bushings on trents car as well. 18x7.5" rims with 225/40/18 Nitto nt01 road racing tires all the way around.

The 2mz intake cams, 3mz exhaust cam combo makes usable power up to around 600whp. I can make you custom 272 regrinds that would be awesome, but they require longer custom valves which of course equals more $. 272's plus custom valves is going to be more expensive than the 2mz/3mz combo. So it just depends on your budget and how crazy you want to get with the motor.

Thanks Gabe

I was looking at your graphs from trents car, and all though your peak hp drops off, so is tq by a lot. Hp=tq*rpm so some of your losses can be attributed to that. Ill try out the 2mz/3mz combo and if that fails i can always sell it before upgrading to some custom grinds. Tony has a worked gearbox, however he is auto and i think they dont cope as well for some reason.

I was originally set on a GT3582R 1.06A/R, but these new BW are hitting the scene and making a lot of waves. They are internally wastegated with an electronic solenoid come in twin scroll variants are made of Titanium hence spool up very quickly, also have a very interesting blade design and inbuilt mount for speed sensors, they cost more but its covered in the parts alone, and seem to get a pretty decent hp bonus

I understand the science behind minimum requirements for clutches, and at 20psi im going to make around 500whp depending on my tune and if i can even get it to the ground. It's starting to look very real now though.

Does anyone else know anything about 1mz BSFC

You don't need to know your BSFC to use our awesome turbo calculator ...

Good luck with your buildup, and remember to size your clutch based on your peak torque (not your peak horsepower) ...

cheers, with any luck ill pull it off without a hitch. Selecting a turbo is the last thing im stuck on. It's frustrating because its a bit of a trial and error. We have covered fluid dynamics at uni, so i know what im doing, but its the lack of useable data thats killing me.

The last thing i read about tony, was in the sticky in the FI section from jan 2010. At that point he was still twincharged with and IPT auto trans.

just learning more stuff as usual. Looking into e85 at the moment. A lot of places get it here now, and it seems to be pretty awesome.
