I bought these in Canada from the Toyota Dealer at the time of new vehicle purchase.

You can probably order from any Canadian Toyota Dealer, remember the prices in this link are Canadian Dollars in other words almost free.

:o Man, it looks really big on the car. In the parts pictures it doesn't seem that big.

The clear license plate cover looks great but I personally don't like that big smoke deflector. Most bugs end up on the front bumper not the hood anyway I've found. Hey, what's up with that bright yellow steering wheel cover? :o

The bug deflector looks huge on the car. I'm not diggin' that look. I guess if you do a lot highway driving I could see it proctecting the hood from rock chips rather than deflecting bugs.

The bright yellow steering wheel cover is a cover warning that a Autolock Security device is installed on the vehicle. You know the mechnical brake lock device.

And about the bug deflector on our drive from Seattle to Miami it really did help keep the bugs off the windshield. It moves the air coming over the hood and

redirects it over the car. It is funny watching the bugs flying up and over the car wheeeeeeeee!

I think it looks great and it seperates my car from all the other Solaras out there.

Thats all for now.

Very interesting. Makes sense it prevents bugs from hitting windshield. I was only thinking about the hood. COOL. Sounds good for long highway trips but I wouldn't use it for most other driving. How easy is it to put on and take off? Too bad it doesn't come in a see-through color making it more invisible.

The US dollar isn't that strong. The Canadian dollar is 84 cents to ours. So those prices are still pretty high. Very ripoff prices for accessories but I like that you have quite a few more choices of what to get than us. Unbeleivable that the car is made here yet we get so fewer accessory choices. Your Toyota website is also far superior. Much nicer promotion of the car. The US Toyota site needs more sprucing up and more pizzazz for sure.

Solara Bug Deflector

For those that are interested I took some other pictures from different angles of how it looks on the car.

Thanks for the extra pictures. It looks better at other angles for sure. Does it clasp to the hood all around easily? Interesting that with just a little angle up, the airflow goes right over the car. Bugs didn't stick to it? I'm assuming it would prevent rocks from hitting your windshield too, right?

I am getting one for my car, I think it will blend right in since it's black. I drove from VA to AL and from AL to FL and I can't even count how many rock chips my poor car has now, and this is with keeping at least 4 car lengths behind other cars. At this rate, the car will have more touch up paint than original. :(

PS I had almost ZERO bugs on my car during this trip because the car was waxed with Rejex, it is the best stuff ever, my car is hardly ever dirty now. It's $20 a bottle, but well worth it.

Solara Bug Deflector

Right, right and right again. It mounts to the hood with 4 mounting clamps with rubber inside the clamps to protect the paint. Then you have 6 or so clear plastic pieces to stick on your hood to keep the deflector from flapping in the wind at high speeds against your hood and of course they also help to maintain a perfect arch against the angle of the hood.
Sorry for the fuzzy close-ups of the clamps I should have used macro mode.

For our cross country trip I installed a bug screen in front of the radiator as you can see from the pictures. It works so well I am just going to leave it on. I bought a roll of aluminum patio screen and a bag of small zap straps
and cut it to fit. It more than did its job, just keeping all those huge mid western bugs out of the radiator. For the $15. it cost it is a lot easier than trying to get in their and blow your rad out after. (maybe I am just anal about things but it was a natural thing for me to do. There is a reason all the semi-trucks you see on the highway have bug screens in front of their radiators, more than a few engines have been saved by keeping the rad from being plugged with bugs.

I did not think about it till now maybe I just have a phobia about BUGS Ha! Ha! (seriously though the pictures don't lie look at all the bugs in my homemade rad protector.)

A few pictures tell a thousand words. I also included a closeup picture of the clear license plate cover.

How are those round domed plastic pieces stuck on the hood? I don't like the fact you have to stick them on the paint and maybe ruin your finish. Doesn't look like it is that easy or fast to completely remove the deflector and its supporting pieces or to put it back on if it needs stickons on the hood.

They are made of soft clear plastic and come with paper over the sticky part and are easy to take off. I do not know how many times you can re and re them without them loosing loosing their stick. In fact you have to be carefull if you go to a car wash that uses high pressure hose to pre-wash your car because if you do not tell them to stay away from behind your deflector they blast them all over the place and then you have to take the piece off and reset them.

I had a bug deflector on my last car 2002 Toyota Camry V-6 and I had the dealer reset my plastic domes when I had the oil changed and a bag of new clear plastic stick-ons only cost $3. So it is not a big deal.

I suppose that if you are only going to have it on your car for short periods you don't have to put all 6 on maybe 3 will do. 2 on the outer edges and one in the middle.

Again they peel off easily from the car and they are cheeeeep!

I would like to talk more but it is 75 degrees and sunny. Time to drop the top and cruise the beach with the XM playing. As you know it is a big responsibility
to take care of however I am up to the task and some one has to do it.

I will check back in at dinner time for any new posts.

Bye for now the beach is calling.
