KYB GR-2's or SE SPORT STRUTS?

Postby BadAngel » Wed Jun 24, 2009 5:04 pm

Hey guys Im back with more suspension questions. I ordered the lowering springs from my friend who works at my local Toyota Dealership(wooo for discounts) anyway. With the discount i can get a set of 4 SE Sport struts for the same price as a set of KYB GR-2's. What do you all think is the better choice. I remember reading that KYB makes the struts that toyota sells for our cars, but I'm not sure of that. Anyway, any feedback would be great!

If there the same price as the kybs go ahead and get the toyota OEM!

Even with the "warranty" on both, I would much rather get real OEM

Are these GR-2's silver painted?

Cuz my '05 SE Sport that is being delivered to Kazakhstan now has a pair of OEMs in the front and silver ones in the back. And it also has a set of brand new TRD springs in the trunk. I was wondering if these silver struts are okay with red springs.

I say GR-2 ..

when we did the suspension here are a few things my buddy and I noticed..

The GR-2 strut would compress the same rate as the oem sport ones I was replacing but when it would uncompress ( rebound?) the GR-2s took about twice as long to get back to rest position.

i interpreted it as the shock has more spring force back to the rest position or toward the ground...the extra spring force would keep it on bumps and stuff than the oem one which will bounce everywhere.

and yes the oem ones are made by KYB. i have a picture somewhere.

hope this helps!

I can't remember who it was on here, but he got some GR-2s recently and got three black and one silver. Because KYB is changing over to a new name for the GR-2 and the new stuff is black. He posted pics up a few days back. Just FYI.
Trust me, I'm a technician.
