Hi staff- the old illuminated entry DIY tutorial is out of print (as the images no longer load up on the site it links to).

Has anyone done this semi recently or enough to remember which wire is the door sensor in the drivers side door sill.

I'm trying to get a set up where the illuminated entry lights are ground by ground, and active when either-

A.) the door is open
-or-
B.) a switch pulse from the stereo turns them on. (my kenwood has this feature)

This is my 2nd solara convertible, and much like my celicas it's rather DARK on the inside with minimal lighting.

Thanks for any advice.

PythonJosh I think is who he is referring to. You can also unbolt the door sensor with one 10mm bolt and pull it out far enough to see the color of the wire. I think it is red with a white stripe or something, just check that.
Trust me, I'm a technician.

Heh, I followed this a long time ago for my Gen 1, and yes - it was the red with silver stripe - but now i'm looking at a Gen 2.... I'd imagine it might be different, since a lot of the other ones seem to be less than standard.

The door sensors are called Door Courtesy Switches...correct? If you are looking for the wire running to them you'd be looking for a Red wire with a Green stripe. See the electrical wiring diagram manual pg 87 found here: http://www.solaraguy.com/viewtopic.php?t=35384

I've got the wires ready.... thanks again for all the help.

Can anyone think of a wiring way this would work though...

In my 02 solara I had a toggle switch for 'door sensor', 'off', or 'on'. With a physical switch in the left little change holder.

I'd like in this 05 to have a switch for 'door sensor', 'off', or 'on' but the trigger to be set by a relay line that is triggered by my car stereo feature. (so you push a button on screen)
See page 69 on http://www.kenwoodusa.com/UserFiles/Fil ... nx7140.pdf for details.

would that require some kind of 'auto sensing' switch? ... does such a thing exist?!

... and will this work since the radio generates a steady stream of power signal, and i'm trying to vary between the door ground, and a constant on ground?

Thanks for any advice, as always.

There's a variable ground wire behind the coin compartment, beside the interior fuse box. I hooked up my entry lights to this too. This wire is grounded when you open any of the doors and become neutral when they are closed.

So basically you'll connect one end of your lights to an always hot wire(+) and the other to the variable ground(-).
