Hey whats up,

Problem: as of recently, my car has shut off on me three times, I purchased a new K&N air filter (crispmongo upgrade) and ever since then my car has been idling funny, I was driving today and I noticed that when in sport mode at the 5th gear/setting (whatever you want to call it), that my odometer needle would go to 1000rpm and then start bouncing between 600rpm and 400 rpm

When i had the original CPE air filter on, it was fine, but ever since I put this K&N filter on, it has shut off on me three times. I had to disconnect the battery to put on the K&N air filter (now keep in mind that this is a brand new filter, I had a K&N filter on before this one that was poorly taken care of so I bought a new one) and I am trying to figure out what the problem is. I have tried to disconnect the battery again and all, what I will be trying soon is to put the original cpe intake back on and see what happens, but until then....

Any answers!

yup, all the sensors are plugged in, I just disconnected the battery and put the K&N filter on, I did not need to remove any sensors

I figure it is just coincidence that you changed the filter and now have this problem. Make sure that the battery cables are tight and making solid connections.

The K&N Air filter did nothing but IMPROVED my performance.
NEITHER did I have to disconnect the battery to install it on my 2004
SLE V6, but I did REPLACE some AIR HOSES that had become loose
and brittle. Faulty and leaking air hoses will ALWAYS affect your
idle. I don't see how the new filter WOULD unless it was NOT set
in correctly and the cover was NOT replaced properly and tightened
down, thereby causing it to leak air from the edges of the filter. If
you remove the K&N FILTER, and you still have the problem, THEN
THE PROBLEM IS NOT THE FILTER. Jimmm

Have you cleaned your maf? Excess oil from the filter can quickly coat the sensor.

Sounds like a vacuum leak. My honda did the same thing while back.

Yes, like I said. Air hoses = vacuum hoses connected to the Air Filter
cannister become brittle and loose over time, especially when you have
to remove them to install a new filter. I forgot that they are called
VACUUM hoses. jimmm

My connections are good, car idles fine when in park and while at the light, car runs fine when I am manually shifting thru the gears...

The only problem I am having is it idles weird when I allow the car to operate automatically, I tested it this morning to find out when it happens and when I allow the car to decelerate ( meaning just taking my foot off the gas and letting it slow down itself) after 40mph, the odometer needle will go down to 1000rpm and then go below that to about 600-400rpm and just bounce back and forth between there....

Sometimes it will shut off and sometimes it will correct itself and go back to 1000rpm, in cases when it shuts off, I just put the car back in neutral and start her up, starts up just fine, drives and accelerates just fine, but when I allow it to decelerate itself, I get that problem...

To clean the maf, how do I do that? I am taking my car in today for my timing belt package and I was told that they would run some tests to see what the problem is, but I have to go home first to get my credit card for a rental, so I was thinking that I would try to clean my maf and drive there to see how it changes...

I will also inspect any and all hoses to try and find any faults, again, this started happening when I installed my new K&N filter and I did not have to remove any hoses to do so, all I did was remove the battery and put the filter on....

It sounds like maybe the torque converter isn't unlocking like it should. The TC is electronically controlled and the programing is likely different from regular operation to auto stick. Like the torque converter may unlock sooner if the stick is in the shifter position like you are describing and fails to unlock when it should when in regular operation. If the computer isn't getting the signal to unlock the converter that may be your problem.

to me, it sounds like your car has gone into "limp mode". sometimes cleaning the MAF does the trick but if not then you might need a new MAF :(
