Thanks for the reminder.
Yes, I'm aware of the issue with synthetic oil on the plastic bowl for the Craftsman in-line compressor filter. I upgraded them with the metal type - P/N 4203-50RF.

The supercharger was cleaned inside and out, changed the nose oil. I used the GM S/C oil as replacement and hope it works.

All dressed up for batlle and ready to be installed this week.

Spare S/C installed

Postby siennasc98 » Fri Dec 22, 2006 10:20 pm

The twin superchargers. The bottom one is the spare.

The spare S/C was installed today and running just fine. The noise is decent for a used unit with unknown condition when purchased. Will test drive tomorrow.

While the S/C is out, I removed the RH Bank valve cover. I replaced the valve cover gasket, the PCV and rubber grommet and check the sparkplugs/wires. As expected, the valve head components are still clean. Consistent change oil with Mobil 1 5w-30 must be working.

Test drive with the spare S/C

Postby siennasc98 » Thu Dec 28, 2006 12:06 am

I took the van to a 100-mile trip over the weekend. No noticeable power degradation with the spare S/C being mounted. The engine pull is the similar to the original S/C though I missed the 5.5-psi boost on some (passing/overtaking) instances. Will leave the spare unit mounted for about a week while I find the time to disassemble the original and evaluate it’s general condition.

The spare S/C is coming out tomorrow. The original is still in excellent condition specially the impellers. I'll just have to change the coupler and the nose/snout oil and will returned to service.
