Getting the mesh to stay on a custom grill is a pain in the azz. You would have to use gutter guard clips from Home Depot to get it to stay on the grill and perhaps some silicon if you choose.

To get the paint to stay you have to use the right type of primer that won't cause the paint that matches your car to bubble after you apply it ontop of the primer.

I think the grill that came from the factory with the car looks the best. Not trying to offend companies who make custom grills, just stating my opinion.

Just lightly sand it, then apply a good primer. When you start with your colored paint, just make sure you spray with several thin coats. Thin coats will help it from bubbling up or running. Also, lots of clear coat. I haven't had any problems with chips so far. I didn't do any mesh, just seems like to much of a pain to do.

If don't already know, you can get your paint here: http://www.automotivetouchup.com/spray_paint.asp

flaky chrome

Postby Sentinel » Tue Nov 15, 2005 5:10 pm

Does anyone know the best way to rid themselves of the ubiquitous flaky chrome? (Besides elbow grease) A solvent perhaps?

I'd be happy w/ flat black. Wait, some of the grill is flat back. :(

For the insert you can always cut it out with like a dremel or something. . . For the chrome trimming you can sand it down with 600 grit than primer it and spray the base coat than clear coat. . . you can get the base and clear coat from the link Astro posted

I wish I could get a grill like this, its sick.

But yeah, I just started getting the flaking too. Ima just sand it down and go with black, until I get enough time to work on a custom.
