Haha, VERY carefully! You must remove the glovebox in addition to the center dash bezel and h/u to even begin working back there. Toyota used an unnecessary amount of clips to hold this harness in place. I was installing my Sirius tuner back there and thought someone with a stock radio would appreciate a cheap JBL upgrade. I expect installation will be much easier than removal.
Funny you should mention the amp bypass. Look closely at the wire for the jbl. See the big white plug by the h/u? That is what connects to the OEM plugs that one would use on the base radio or an aftermarket stereo!
Connection is as follows.
1) lower most plug goes into the back of the h/u
2) source unit sends signal down to the JBL amp via left white plug
3) JBL amplifies signal, applies crossovers, etc and sends signal out other left white plug to the large white plug on the right
4) large white plug hooks into standard toyota radio harness (found in every car, with or without JBL option) for front and rear speaker leads, 12 volt power, ground, dimmer, etc...
