Add DVD, TV, and Backup Camera to your stock Navi

With Help from Mike I.'s post, I found a cost effective way to add a DVD player, TV tuner and a backup camera to my stock Navi. It is not installed yet because I am waiting for one of the parts - Toyota Viewtech Controller. I purchased the controller (link below) to add 2 audio and 2 video inputs to our stock Navi...

Then I purchased a DVD player/TV tuner...

and now I am waiting for the Viewtech Controller... I still have a few more weeks to wait for it to get here... I'll post pics of the whole set up when its installed. The DVD player/TV tuner will be installed under the passenger seat, but you could have it installed almost anywhere. P.S. it does not fit into the center console... I already tried that :(

Let me know what you think.. It seems pretty simple... I'm looking forward to have it all done. I considered replacing the stock Navi with the Eclipe system (avn 5435 or avn 5495), but is over 2 grand, where I am spending only $600 with install.

I am still considering the backup camera, which would be easy to add...

Any comments on the viewtechs yet?

here's something else I saw in a group buy...

there was a previous thread with more info here:

http://www.acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=300560

they say it works with most cars...

lo and behold...

http://www.navwithtv.com/tek9.asp?pg=Lexus

works with Lexus...

so maybe it'll work with ours? note, just reading a bit more, it only converts digital signals, would need a separate audio converter/adapter to get the audio into the system.

Good find cklinh!! I already contacted the company (VAIS Technology) and I am waiting for a reply about their product and our Navi system. I did find out that it will not be available for purchase until July 10th. In addition, you are correct about the audio signal having to be cut and spliced manually.

I am going to stick with the Viewtech Controller because it already has the Audio/Video inputs integrated into it.

Check the post listed...

The MOTHERLODE for iPod and Video on Navi... that is the other unit that I was referring to.

Again, I am going to stick with the Viewtech Controller because of the audio issue.
