IPod Car Holder

I found this website called ProClips. They have an IPod car kit for our cars. They also have for cell phones.

Connect the mount to the car then the holder to the mount.

Pretty nice but way overpriced. Almost $60 for the two holders? Ouch My setup was way cheaper.

I saw the picture of cellphone holder from proclip, or something similar (I don't remeber exactly, which brand it was), and decided to DIY after looked at the price...

I went to RadioShack near by, and found one cheap cellphone holder for 10 bucks.
then looked around in my garage, and found couple metal piece.
drill couple holes, attached the cellphone older with screws, and then took the center console out and found tighten it up with one of the screw back of the center box with the lid.

I recently changed one of the metal piece, so i will post new pics tomorrow.
please check my CarDomain page.

Cellphone holder: 9.99 + Tax
Junk in my dad's tool box: Free
Find the way to put the cellphone holder: 15 Min.
Drill hole and assemble parts: 20 Min.
Ice cold Beer after work: Free (found in my fridge..)

Total Cost: 9.99 + Tax + 30 Min.

I'm using a cheap cellphone holder instead. Forgot where I ordered it from though. I'm also using a Peripheral Electronics IPOD2CAR. Check out my Car domain site link for pictures.

PANAVISE makes a in-dash vehicle specific setup that I have used on all my cars for last 10 years. Well made, solid construction. If you search the web, you can find reasonable pricing. You can go to http://www.panavise.com for their homepage. Her is link to Solara specific mount:http://www.panavise.com/nf/comm/indash/instruction.html?partn=751371099

Why not just use this?

http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Metra-To ... tDetail.do

This allows your stock head unit to control the IPOD just like a CD changer... That way you can keep your IPOD hidden in the front flip down compartment.

Huh huh huh? :P

That unit is just like the IPOD2CAR in that it doesn't show the song name on the radio. Good price though. So you wouldn't want to just hide the IPOD away unless you had no interest in ever seeing the song names you were playing.

Hmmm, those instructions refer to a Gen 1/1.5 Solara.

I got my iPod on the new location.
i put it on next to the Air Conditioner vent.
since the new dash kit does not use one of the clip, i secured holder on to the hole using electrical tape as the clip

The new location seems more visible from outside, so i need to take it every time i leave my car. but it's also easier to see from the driving seat, and not on the way of passenger seat.

Anyway, here is the picture.

I use an aux line in with the orignal belt clip that came with my ipod. You can get the belt clip to clip onto the rubber that is right behind the e-brake handle. You can't use the ebrake anymore when the ipod is clipped in, but with automatic I never did anyways. The best part is tha when you have your right arm on the center console, which is how I always drive, your hand hangs down right where the ipod control pad is. So I can be in my natural driving position and my hand touches the ipod which doesn't move at all. It looks like it was designed for it, especially with a silver ipod. I'll have to take a picture for my car domain site. I have my sirius receiver in the flip up compartment.

I was reading about parking brakes on automatics, and found that I'm a dumba$$ for not using it. Even though it's totally flat in Phoenix, the automatic transmission is not meant to be used as the parking brake. So I'm moving my ipod to somewhere else.
