Navigation System vs. 6-CD Disk Changer

Navigation System vs. 6-CD Disk Changer

Postby Tedd » Wed Nov 30, 2005 8:22 pm

Hey guys! I'm a newby in this room and I have a question for the oldbys.
I'm in the process of ordering a 2006 SLE Solara. I was just told by a Toyota dealer that if I order a navigation system, my CD player will be reduced to one disc due to reconfigurations of the provided space. My question is:
If this is true, Is the navigation system worth the sacrifice of giving up a 6-disk CD player? I've never had a car with a navigation system. HELP!

i would say go with the navigation. six disc luxury is nice but to me navigation is much more luxurious then the six disc.

then again ive never had navigation but i have had six disc and i think the navi would be better.

My dad asked me this question once:

How many cds can you listen to at the same time?

My suggestion get yourself the nav for obvious reasons, get an ipod and use that as your "can hold more than what ever you put on 6 cds" unit

Welcome to the forum and congrats on your purchase.

To answer your question, yes you are limited to a single cd player if you chose the Navi, which I would recommend you to get. 6 disc changer is okay and all, but Navi would be so much better IMHO.

Welcome to the forum!!

I'm going to slide this question to the Gen2 audio section so you can get more responses. I'll leave a shadow so those who would like to say welcome can do so.

navigation system vs 6-disc CD player

Postby Tedd » Thu Dec 01, 2005 11:40 am

Hey guys! Thanks for the input. What I may do is get a TomTom GO 700 GPS system. It's cheaper (although smaller) than the factory installed navigation system. That way I can have both. :D

I just bought a 2006 with the Nav system. I wanted the "navi" because my former car, a 2001 Acura CL, had the feature and I enjoyed it. I never really used it that often, but it did come in handy a few times. I too knew that I would lose the CD changer if I went for the navigation system. While I'm sorry my new ride does not have the changer, I've not missed it at all. Would I change my mind if I had the purchase to do over again? No. Hope this helps.

I chose the NAV and put in an IPOD directly connected to the CD changer port in the back. That blows away a six CD changer. The NAV rocks. CD Changers will be extinct dinosaurs soon with all the IPOD connection options now and in the future.

i have tomtom go 700 as well. just be careful leaving your gps or even just the dock itself inside your car. i have a friend who got his window smashed just by leaving the dock. the thief probably thought the gps is somewhere inside the car. the good thing is you can put your gps on any car you want... :P

btw, if you have a bluetooth capable phone, you can use your tomtom to make/receive call sort of a handsfree device

I would go with Nav, or Nav+iPod (add later). I do believe there also after market charger that can be hooked to the Nav.

My reasons I prefer the installed Nav:
1. I still do believe the installed-Nav (vs portable-Nav) is more accurate as it is hooked to vehicle's speed sensor.
2. Clear direction voice from the sound system speakers (vs built-in speaker).
3. There are more upgradeable features. Refer below link for reference.
