Converting from a stock JBL stereo to NAV

Converting from a stock JBL stereo to NAV

Postby Mayor » Tue Jul 18, 2006 7:34 am

Hey guys,

I just bought the following Solara:

2004 SLE V6 Solara Convertible w/ 17,500
Silver w/ Char Grey Int / Black Top

The car is loaded with every option except for NAV.

I have two questions:

1) Is there a way to have the stock stereo removed and a Toyota NAV system installed? Will Toyota do this?

2) Can anyone provide me with a link to a company that will fit a NAV system into my '04 Solara? I am looking for the NAV systems that lay flat in the dash - not the ones that look like a CD player and the screen pops out.

The most important thing is that I want it to look like it fits. The Solara's that come with NAV from the factory have a silver border that is nice and flush with the dash - I dont want some company to start install some crappy carbon fiber or some flat border that looks like its aftermarket.

Im just wondering who would be more expensive - Toyota or an aftermarket company?

Im in the Easton / Bethlehem PA area. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Mayor

The Eclipse that you sell is cheaper and better than the JBL Toyota Navigation system. Just the 30 GB hard-drive mapping and mp3 with voice...I bought one because I saw the result and it's too hot !

Thanks for the replies guys, but Im mostly concerned with the silver frame/border (shown below - area surrounding NAV system). Where would I get that frame/border so ANY NAV system will look flush with my dash?

Yup, most aftermarket headunits (with exception of EXTREMELY high end units) have built in amplifiers. I believe this unit in particular, and most mid-to-high end Eclipse units in general are rated at 15W x 4 RMS.
