Sirius Tuner Question

Postby MCOjerry » Sat Dec 08, 2007 7:17 pm

Sorry, I tried to dig up my old thread about this, but the search didn't find it.

Does anyone know if this Sirius tuner would be compatible with the 2006 JBL HU? Sirius has a lot of branded tuners, but none for Toyota. This one seems to be a universal or generic one.

http://shop.sirius.com/edealinv/servlet ... ntID=10799

The descriptions mention the possible need for an additional piece to connect it to come HUs.

I don't really like the display that the JBL will give, but I'm getting a little tired of the sound loss with the plug n play unit.

Thanks for any help. I know there are some guys out there that work for Toyota, so I'm hoping you will know, or be able to find out. :D

There are companies out there that make OEM units for adding siruis to headunits. I forget the company that makes it, but i remember when i used to work for a shop, that i could order it, sell it to the customer and have it installed for HALF of what the dealership wanted for it. I would look online and you will find companies that make pure OEM copies of the toyota sirius unit.

That's what this is, it's directly from the Sirius website and it's only $49. The Toyota OE model of $499.

Sirius makes models for GM, and other companies, but nothing for Toyota OE HUs. That's why I thought this universal one might work.

I have a stock JBL HU, so I can't go buy a branded tuner from Circuit City or some place like that. I have never seen one that was made for a JBL HU.

From what I understand, you have to make sure you get one compatible with your brand or it won't work.

well you can try a few things. 1) http://www.tss-radio.com/toyota-sirius- ... -4471.html , that is the setup you wanted to use.

Another thing is you can talk to reggie and see what he can quote you on the OEM sirius tuner for toyotas. The part numbers are PTS31-07050 (fit kit, about $80-$100) and PTS31-00052 (tuner box, about $180-$200).

Thanks, I couldn't find the 2nd part on the Sirius website. It's rather expensive, but still half the price of the OE tuner. I'm going to have to see if CC of BB (or some other local place) has the auxiliary I'm inept at this stuff, and would need an install.

I just don't get thy these things are so damn expensive, when you can get a Sirius radio for $50. It's the same damn technology, except the interface with the OE HU... but you can't tell me that part of it cost that much to program. Such a rip off!

I appreciate your help!

Jerry - I guess I'm not sure what you're asking here. There is a Sirius P/N for our cars with the OEM JBL Tuner - that's what I'm using now and it's really easy to install it yourself!

Check with Reggie (NVDIS1) - I'm sure he can hook you up with a better deal than your dealer.

Correct, the Toyota OE Sirius tuner is around $499.

I found the one above on the Sirius website, and it's supposed to be universal, just need another part for some HUs.

If I can get the same thing for 1/2 the cost, I just might do it. I know I'm definitely not paying $499 plus installation (over $600) to Toyota.

Now Jeff, we're talking about ME here. I can barely install gas!

LOL...just kidding. I used to know how to do small things back when I had a beater car in college, but...
