Aftermarket Bluetooth

Postby red2002solara » Sun Dec 30, 2007 5:53 pm

For Christmas my partner bought me a Parrot 3200 LS Color Hands Free Bluetooth kit. I'm having the kit installed Friday, but was curious if anyone has a Parrot Bluetooth already installed in their Solara. I have an 06 SLE V6.

No Go On Bluetooth

Postby red2002solara » Sun Jan 06, 2008 1:49 pm

So I took the Solara in today to Circuit City to get the Parrot LS 3200 installed. They were unable to install it; apparently it is incompatible with the upgraded JBL stereo system; the bluetooth will work on Solara base steroes, but not the JBL units. The car tech is going to contact Parrot tomorrow to see if they have a part to make the system compatible. So I returned the unit and got a refund, and next week I'll stop by the Toyota dealership and see if they have any recommendations for units that would work.

Bah, the reason they say that is because the wires between the headunit and the JBL amp is line level audio instead of speaker lever audio. Parot will not have a kit that will work with this if i remember correctly, however all that would need to be done is to wire it in AFTER the amplifier. Just make sure the installer feals comfortable doing an install like that. It is doable, just more difficult (and probably more expensive)

but i think it's do-able
and very EASY to do too..

or change ur stereo

i have nokia bluetooth on my car.
everything was perfect, except, i gave up mute feature

Further Research

Postby red2002solara » Thu Jan 10, 2008 10:02 am

I did some further research and it appears the Parrots are designed for European cars. They sell harnesses to adapt the units to U.S. cars, but it still does not resolve compatibility issues that resolve on some vehicles.

Surprise surprise, the tech from Circuit City never called me back (shouldn't have expected him to follow through). I've also read on message boards that people seem to have alot of problems installing these Parrot units, and have to do some creative rigging to get them to work. I don't my system spliced and diced too much.

I'm looking at the Motorola units, desigend for U.S. cars. I'm going to the dealership first and talk to the parts departments, see if they have any recommendations. Looks like this little project will take a little while longer.

I'm interested in this... did you see this site?

http://www.quickconnectproducts.com/Find/find.php

Looks like they have adapters for our JBL stereos (w/ and w/o navigation)...

Very interested to see how this turns out... and which model Mark is selling.

After reading through that, their JBL harness is nothing more than bypassing the amp. Ify ou flip through the site, it says you need to directly wire the parrot kit to a speaker.
