Bluetooth Car Kit

Bluetooth Car Kit

Postby cklinh » Wed May 07, 2008 8:57 am

Just FYI for anyone else interested.

I'm looking into the following:

http://www.safewireless.com/

For a Bluetooth car kit (I hate earpieces); more specifically, the Parrot CK3000 Evolution.

They have the harnesses for our cars to make installation (supposedly) easier. I think a few months back, there was someone that posted saying they couldn't get it installed. Now, this looks like a DIY.

Prices seem fairly reasonable as well.

The harnesses are JBL-1 and TOY-1.

I'm waiting to hear back from them regarding my iPod Kit, and whether that would interfere with installation/operations. If all goes well, I'm looking at getting this at the end of the month... will document installation/operation if I do get it.

If anyone is interested...

Got this installed and it works really well. I chose to go with the kit without the display for simplicity's sake. Calls come in, radio mutes; other party can't tell I'm in my car (unless I'm on the freeway or something).

The owner/distributor was also a pleasure to deal with.

Aside from connecting the harnesses, I had to splice into the amp-to-speaker wires so that mute will work. It took a bit of maneuvering, but it was very doable.

PM me if you have any other questions.

I'll try to grab some pics, but I haven't decided where to mount the control knob... I now have it in the little cubby hole/door thing in front of the shifter (where I had made a hole to mount my sub volume knob).

The mic is on top of the steering wheel column.

Parrot 3200 LS - Color

Postby red2002solara » Thu Jul 03, 2008 5:18 pm

Well, I finally got the Parrot bluetooth kit installed on my 06 Solara SLE V6, and does it work great. The system automatically uploads my phonebook to the Parrot unit, and setting up the voice command was a breeze.

After being told by outfits like Best Buy and Circuit City that the unit was incompatible with my factory JBL stereo, I found an aftermarket outfit who had no problem installing the unit. Best advice, avoid the chain electronics. Their techs don't know their heads from their asses. Find an independent shop that has a good rep. When I dropped off the car this morning for the installation, the place was packed (an indication they do good work). I'm very pleased with how they installed everything.

If anyone lives in Phoenix, the outfit I went with was Soundwerks on Bell Road near 40th street. I'm was so impressed with their work they are installing bluetooth and an ipod adapter on my 06 Honda Pilot.

It was good timing that I got this done. I'm going to California next week and they just enacted the no talking on the cell phone law.

Parrot Use Update

Postby red2002solara » Sat Jul 19, 2008 10:28 am

As long as you know what you're doing, the installation is quite easy (per the outfit who installed the system for me).

I've used the bluetooth kit for a few weeks now and am not disappointed with it at all. I'm glad I got it and it's just another reason (the first being I love my car) why I won't be getting rid of my Solara until the day it rusts and falls apart on the road.

I'm assuming you were able to use this even though you have the iPod adapter?

What exactly are you looking for pictures of?

And I don't remember the brand of the iPod adapter anymore... it's in one of these threads around here...
