Upgrading stereo help/suggestions

Well, its summer again... and i have a job... which means its time to spend money on the Solara xD...

Well as of right now.... i have the stock JBL system, that i added a sub $ amplifier to using the Scosche in line converter to tap into the rear speakers...

Now i want to add a whole new head unit because there are so many little things that annoy me about the stock one... I hate the built in equalizer (if you could call it that... it barley gives u any control over the sound. I have my ipod hooked up through an fm transmitter and i hate the horrible sound it has so i want the ipod to plug straight in. And i want to be able to control the ipod from my steering wheel controls. Now... i have done quite a bit of research and heres what i came up with:

Head Unit:
http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/ ... H-P4000DVD

steering wheel control adapter:
http://cgi.ebay.com/PAC-SWI-PS-fits-Pio ... dZViewItem

After reading about how others set up their stereos, i decided i want to keep the stock amplifier since i am not changing any of the speakers... the only way to do this that i found is through a product like this:
http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/ ... SR&tp=3486

Now here come the problems... Crutchfield says its compatible with my 2004 JBL system, but the actual scosche instructions say it only works with 06-07... Why would this be? i assumed it was the same... isn't it? If not then can someone help me find a product that will work with my 04

Also, i was wondering if i should leave my sub hooked up how it is (tapped into the rear speakers using this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/SCOSCHE-LOC80-2-Cha ... 18Q2el1247
or will i be able to run RCA's straight to this new headunit... I think it depends on if and how i can hook the JBL amp up to the headunit...

Any suggestions or answers will be greatly appreciated... Thanks!

hmmm... the problem seems as if it may be the fact that you are both using it with kenwood products... I dunno.. i'll have to read up on the product further... but it says its not compatible with a 2204.. i duno... If i bypass the amplifier, i am afriad that the headunit i want will not power the speakers as well as the JBL amplifier does...

these are its power specs:

Built-in Speaker Power: MOSFET 50Wx4
Continuous Power Output: 22Wx4

what else have you guys got to say?
