After market top boot?

After market top boot?

Postby Bill Barnes » Fri Jun 22, 2007 12:45 pm

My wife loves her 07 convertible but garaged it and the boot, which was leaning against the wall, fell and touched the tailpipe, melting a gouge and I need to replace it. Does anyone know a chaeper alternative than the dealer? I have scoured the web and can't locate one.

What happened ?? She park the car in the garage and smack it over the wall ?? It hits the bumper or muffler or spoiler ??

I'm trying to find out which part of the car is broken...

if you seek something you may find it at http://www.trdparts4u.com

Maybe the cover for the top?

Do they have them? I don't even know I don't have a convert.

Welcome to SolaraGuy, feel free to introduce yourself in the Introductions section. For a second there I almost thought that you were speaking British English (I'm a 3rd generation Scouse if you are though), but then again the "boot" doesn't melt from heat exposure  . If you're talking about the cover that goes over the gap when the top is down, hopefully someone else can help.

Sheesh

For being Solaraguys I'm a bit surprised at the confusion. The Solara convertible has a cover that goes over the top when it is down. His was not on the vehicle, fell down and got damaged by the heat of his exhaust.

To answer your question, the Solara convertible is such a niche vehicle that I can't imagine aftermarket companies would bother building an alternative to the OEM cover. The best solution I have is to contact NVSDS1 (Reggie) a member of this board who works in a Toyota parts department in St. Louis, MO. He has stepped up to the plate for many members and gotten good prices on parts. Other online alternatives include partznet.com (Conecilli Toyota in PA) and toyotaparts4u.com (Concord Toyota in NC).

All the best in your search, it won't be cheap

I wish someone made an alternative (read: BETTER!) boot for the convertible than the lameass after-thought POS they give you with the car!! That's the stupidest design I've ever seen come out of Toyota, I swear!!

You might find one for sale somewhere - most people don't use theirs (or they just hate dealing with the POS). Mine's hanging up in the garage - I painted mine with black vinyl paint to better match the car's top, but I've only used it at one car show to date.

Good luck! If you end up finding something aftermarket/custom made, let us know! ;)

I just did a search on google, and there's nothing out there...but you might have better louck if you DON'T search for a boot cover, since the more recognized term for the product is tonneau cover.

With more time, and the right search terms, you might find something.

I thought I saw quite a few of them on ebay. I'm guessing people don't want them....

You're right Larry - they're crap and just take up space in the garage!

The funny thing is that I have never even tried to use mine. I'm too worried that it will rain and it will take too long to take the damn thing off and the car will get drenched. (plus I'm too lazy to put it on)

That's why the hard tops and others that have auto tonneau covers are nice. BMW, Audi and others have auto covers...

Obviously none of us hard top guys could ever get that question lol! If you look above, you'll see that everyone who posted was a hardtop driver.

I hate it how there's not much aftermarket stuff for these cars. Then again, I love it at the same time. There's no endless searching and comparing things like on a Civic.

True as it might be (except for MCOJerry and PXLpainter), I kinda figured it out halfway through the sentence... I'm not a stranger to drop-tops though (my ex had a 323i, but then again it had an auto tonneau).

I have a 2007 also and have never used it. I call it a boot too because back in the 50's and 60's that is what they were called. Maybe a British term that was used with MG and Triump(spelling).
Why replace it?

In the UK, the boot is the trunk.
