Air Intake Resonator

Air Intake Resonator

Postby JMSinMaryland » Tue Dec 04, 2007 5:55 pm

I'm wondering if anyone else has removed their air intake resonator box from their vehicle? I am installing my Injen intake tomorrow and figured while I'm at it to remove the "AIR." It doesn't really seem to have a purpose other than possibly muffling the air a bit. Please give me some feedback if you've removed yours and what, if any difference, you notice. Thanks Jon.

Same concept as number 13 above.

I thought that was some kind of moisture drain receptacle or something... anyway - it was in the way so I tossed mine when I put in my first SRI (Injen) as well - won't connect anyway - it's just sitting there.

took mine out, i believe it is to change the tone. when i took mine out it made it a bit deeper of a "growl" with no noticeable effects either way

Yeah, in our 1MZ once you get an intake, all the stuff designed for resonating/sound reduction would be useless; I've taken EVERYTHING out for mine, especially that "4-gallon jug" (the thing similar to #13 above) that became a major pain in the ass when I was trying to install my Highway Blasters.

turn your wheel on driverside inward, remove screws that are holding the protective plastic shield around your wheel well, (no screws) and pull that milk jug down and out.

it wont effect anything, if you did a CAI it would alleviate more room to work with/cold air to suck.

The air intake resonator box purpose is to keep manufacturer respecting Db laws...it lowers the decibels.

Taking the bottom part out will have no big difference in performance considering that section of your fender does not get a full chunk of fresh air unless you remove the fog lights. I would take the time to remove it but make sure you put the old bolts or anything back into the car or else you will be annoyed with the fender flopping at high speeds.

Question

Postby JMSinMaryland » Fri Dec 07, 2007 8:36 pm

Did removing it with the stock setup result in any change in dB? I'm thinking of either removing it completely and routing some additional cold air in or cutting out the bottom half to act like a funnel and route some additional cold air in. Let me know.

Yeah, if there even was a difference, it was like 1db.I'm planning to run a Ram Air (from bumper) to the stock airbox when I have time to design one. Summer most likely.
