Fast Idle issue

Fast Idle issue

Postby Midias » Tue Feb 19, 2008 2:36 pm

On my solara the fast idle seems to work well when it is cold the car starts and runs about 1500-1700 as expected, but on my finances 98 Camry 2.2l even on the coldest days it only goes about 1100 on startup.

So my questions...

1. Is this normal for the automatic version of this engine?

2. Is the fast idle control a different unit from the IAC?

3. Can it be cleaned out?

4. Where is it?

To be honest I have not even looked under the hood much just thought I would throw it out there.

Well to answer your first question, Yes I think this is normal for the Auto versions. I had the same issue, Only I would sit at 2000 till warmed up on cold days and 1500 on warm days.

What I did was, Cleaned out my TB with Carbon cleaner, carb cleaner.
Then I replaced my stock plugs with Denso Iridium IK20's. Cleaned out my air filter and I idle much better now.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure a V6 will idle higher than your girlfriend's 2.2 I4 since it has 2 more pistons. 8) Hope you get this resolved.

I am sorry I cannot even wrap my mind around this statement it makes no sense.

My accord 2.0 was at 2000 when cold and my motorcycle is about 2500 and they have less than 6 cylinders???

on my former 88 camry 5 speed, I had to replace the cold start injector twice due to a low cold idle.....

Ok anyone have any HELPFUL ideas. If not I will clean the IAC over the weekend but I have already cleaned the TB so I cannot imaging it is too bad.

Its normal. Smaller engines have less rotational spinning mass. Also the RPM are base on also how much force it takes to spin it. the 2.2 is not a super high compression motor so it does not have to sit at high RPM waiting for the oil to run through it and warm it up.

My civic idles at 1,200 and it has a much higher compression pistons.

You might be able to raise it a little if you throw on thicker oil weights and maybe cleaning up some sensors but I doubt it will do much.
