Hawk Rear Brake Pad Fitment

Postby TRDSleeper » Mon Oct 13, 2008 1:35 am

Hey Everyone,

I just got a complete set of Hawk brake pads front and rear for my 2001 V6 Camry. When I took it to my mechanic yesterday he put on the front pads only and said that the rear did not fit. He didn't specifically say why they didn't fit but I am curious. I thought most parts for Solaras fit on gen4 and 4.5 Camrys. Hawk's website even said the rear pads i bought will fit 1998-2000 Camry. The part number is HB401F.587. How can my 2001 Camry be much different than a 2000? Have anyone here use rear Hawk pads for their Camry?

I found out that a 2001 Camry V6 rear pads are different from a 2000 Camry V6. Whether it's made in Japan or USA makes the rear pads different too. I have the Japanese one and the FMSI code is D835. I just want other people to be aware of the FMSI code when buying brake pads because the code indicates a specific pad shape. I didn't know this at first so I got the wrong pads for the rear.
