Turbo V6?

Turbo V6?

Postby CosmicGrooves » Wed Apr 05, 2006 7:26 pm

Can a custom turbo put on the 3.3ltr V6's?

I assume it can. Does anyone know of this being done or how much it may cost?

Since there may be no supercharger option, a turbo would be the next option.

anything is possible with enough money. talk to trd4life or greg about engine buildups before looking for someone to do a custom turbo

I'd love to be, as long as it doesn't kill the car... oh, and is relativly cheap.

going with a stock motor + low boost will run you along the lines of 5-6k as turbosolara quoted. since its a v6, i'd guesstimate 7-8k

One other person on this site (I can't mention names) was working on a custom turbo for the 3.3L but he ran into problems with compression ratio and the amount of pressure the internals could handle without severe modification... Castro's guesstimate of around $8K is pretty acurate...

Same parts work for the 3.3 as the 3.0..
I sold some of my turbo kit to a local guy here with the 3.3 and he is now turbo. pretty quick

As someone with experience in this, you will not come across compression problems any differently than the 1mz. It is still an MZ motor either way you look at it. As long as you the correct air/fuel ratio, you will be fine. Its not hard and putting a turbo on your car will NOT cost 5 or 6 or 8K.

Mine was done correctly and I only spent a total of $3100 after all was said and done. That also included an HKS T51R turbo before it was all said and done.
You can do it right with about $2200.

ONE MORE IMPORTANT THING>> dont trust everyone who says anything on here. Most of these people have no clue as to what or how to do a turbo on any car much less their own car. All you ever hear is "i heard that you have to have this" or "so and so has this car and they did it like this so you have to". anyway, you know the drill.

Well, i would say hit me up, but i am retiring from the Solara. good luck

^Valid point. If you use the right parts, and don't go crazy I can see that happening. $2200 still seems low though considering the T51R alone has an msrp over $3000. So I'm assuming you bought a used one?
Trust me, I'm a technician.
