boost shouldn't be much of an issue with the auto. Plenty of factory turbo automatics out there. Heat kills. Tranny cooler and increased pressure FTW

For the more boost inclined: What would the ballpark expectation be for gains from this? Would it be a beast, or just a monster. Surely you'd break 200 to the wheels, but by how much you think?

Wish I had the time and $$ to just tear down my ride and do a project like that. Would be great to start with new internals and work it from the inside out - including a manual swap, but oh well... probably not gonna happen in my lifetime.

I'll just live vicariously through you guys! ;)

i suspect that it will be a boat load of mulah to finish this project successfully and efficiently, but i am still interested.

Hey guys, so I talked to stevo and his crew and the gains we're hoping to achieve is somewhere between 390-410 on mostly stock internals. The only major engine work they want to do is hi-flow injectors, intercooler, custom manifold, and reprogrammed ecu.

We're hoping the car will be just-about-a-beast, maybe like the boogie-man. Addionally, 2 sets of molds are being worked on for a one-of-a-kind lip kit; personally done by stevo.

The cost of the turbo setup and lip kit will be posted in the next week and half by me or stevo

Geezzz...At how many PSI the wastegate will be set to acheive 320 whp (around 400hp) ???

I think the rod in the 3MZ are not strong enough to take medium to large boost. I saw once a comparaison of 3MZ rods with other Toyota rods...I think it was the 1MZ and an other one...don't remember. Toyota makes them light and strong enough for the N/A application. I think Jeff is right on this one...I would forge the internals doing any major boost like Stevo wants to do. Anyway with a A/R of .50 turbine I don't think he will be able to reach 400hp. What you guys think about it ?? Also 400hp on the stock tranny = BOOM (with just the CP-e, I felt some hits on the tranny) Especially in the beginning.


First I thought he was aiming to reach the 250whp (around 300+ hp) I think with 4-6 PSI it is reachable...but 400+ hp hurry to see that happen ! :D

Bottom line to reach 400 hp with the 3MZ you need to boost it at least at 14 PSIg....don't think the stock internals will take it for long.

I just apply the formulas...I'm still not a turbo master...I can be wrong...but I think my numbers are making sense and their based on solid numbers. I think would be better first to target more the 300+ than the 400


But what you have to know...is I calculated 14 PSIg with an average setup. When I optimize everything it seems possible to reach 400 HP with 8 PSI....but with


100F Tm = Intake Manifold Temperature (instead of 130F )
0.99 VE = Engine Volumetric Efficiency (instead of 0.98 )
0.5 BSFC = Brake Specific Fuel Consumption (instead of 0.55 )
11.7 A/F Ratio (instead of 12.7)

it gives ...

400hp@6200
Wa = Airflowactual (lb/min) = 39
Pressure Ratio = 2,8688776


The VE is theoric I don't know the true value for the 3MZ.
To reach 100F intake manifold temp you would need a pretty efficient IC.
THE BSFC is also theoric, I don't know the real data...but I optimize it with the range Garrett are using. The A/F is rich and the setup will need good upgrades regarding fuel system to reach it.


But it can be made...but I guess the stress it will gives to the 3MZ can damage at least the rods. I hope your cousin is serious and preparing himself with good research and numbers to validate if the intermals can make it thru.
