Labor & Parts Cost: Valve Cap Gasket Repl

Postby Sol-Toy » Tue Mar 29, 2011 8:18 am

How much should I expect to pay for labor and parts on Valve Cap Gasket replacement? I'm getting the kit with the front and rear cap gaskets, grommets, etc. The mechanic ball parked $60 and on top, they're charging $90 p/hr for labor. This is not the dealer, but a private auto mechanic in wrigleyville (Pong Imports) http://www.yelp.com/biz/pong-imports-an ... ce-chicago

Any ideas? I'm still debating if I just have the front done and hang on to the the rear for later? Or just have both. I haven't been quoted yet, but should hear back later today.

I've never heard of 'valve cap gasket'. A google search returns 'valve cover gasket'. Same thing?

Thanks! Yes, this is exactly what I was looking for. And yes, I meant to type valve *cover* gasket.

Just got the call.. $250 total for a front valve cover gasket on my 1mz 'lara. I'm wondering how much they added to charge for a re-thread after I snapped one of the bolts trying to DIY... w00ps!

I'm not complaining. I was hoping I could get both done and under $400. They wanted $300 for the rear but it's not worth it since it's not leaking all that badly.

Anyone have any tips on valve cover sealant and how one gets all up in there with out removing manifolds and what-not? :D
