Check Engine Light

My check engine light came on this morning while driving to work. (I have a 2004 Solara with 94,000 miles). Do I have to take it to the Dealership or can any mechanic work on this issue?

Advance auto parts will check that for free

They still do that? I thought they stopped or was that autozone?
If you lived closer I'd check it for you. I have about 4 OBD2 scanners lol
