Gen 2 Steering wheel on Gen 1 Solara?

I'm planning on doing a complete overhaul to the audio system in my 2001 Solara, and after countless hours of searching for an aftermarket upgrade to add audio controls to my steering wheel, I found nothing. I'm wondering if it would be possible to mount a steering wheel from a gen 2 Solara that has the audio controls to my Gen 1 steering column, and if the cruise control switch will still work if I do. I've found an adapter that I would plug into the audio control interface on the steering wheel that is compatible with my new H/U. I'm just concerned that either the cruise control switch would no longer work, or the steering wheel itself wouldn't fit onto the steering column. Any thoughts?

I would also worry about the airbag. Dont know much about it, but I do know the airbag is in the steering wheel.

That is a lot of work but It is an interesting project with the steering wheel swap. It definitely will not be easy but it might work.

I doubt the wheels are different enough to not be swappable.
I say buy the stuff and try it.
