Possible to mix and match filters with intakes??

New to this and dont have a lot of cash. So i want to buy a simple SRI (possibly weapon r dragon) And swap the weapon air filter out with an Injen filter. Anyone tried something like this? I read Injen air filters are interchangeable as long as you have the dimensions right.

Second question is since im considering the SRI but want cooler air than what is in the engine bay to get sucked in, what would be a better choice for my money the ram air intake or the heat shield? (Also made by Injen so it fits the filter.) What exactly does the ram air intake do? What is the smarter buy?

Im running a 2001 solara SLE 3.0L V6.

Im pleased to be apart of this board and hope you guys welcome me the same.

As long as the filters opening and the pipe diameter are the same, it doesn't matter what filter goes on it. Of course you want something that actually filters the dirt out. There are no ram air style intakes for the solara. There was an extension made for the Injen that'll put the filter lower. I believe the CPE sri had a heatshield. You could also fab one up.

If budget is tight, then OBX intake is cheap and the quality is not bad.

The Injen is a bit more expensive though (I bought one new for $240 from ebay) but it is a very good product (thats the brand of sri that I have on my Solara).

The Injen that I have doesn't come with a heat shield, I don't know about the ones for the V6 but here is a picture of the Injen intake on my car:

CPE is the most expensive intake at over 400 usd brand new.

^^It was Wakebrdr91 who inspired me to get an Injen intake over a year ago, and it looks like you might be the next victim lol.

I have read that the Weapon R intake aren't too good because they don't fit very well into a lot of cars.

Injen is definitely a good brand, you buy one that is made for your car, it will fit no problems and no check engine lights will show.

OP, this is a picture of an Injen SRI with a HKS filter, just to show you that as long as the filter diameters and pipe diameters are the same, it will fit:

Tacti3 said on his cardomain that its an injen sri, the owner of the intake who had it before Tacti3 probably just stuck a decal on there.

as well as painting it black and adding additional pieces (the red thing on it does nothing... just some type of add on piece on mine that does nothing but maybe an extra brace for certain cars)??
