Same tire ratings different tread?

Same tire ratings different tread?

Postby KingKevin » Mon May 16, 2011 2:48 pm

Ok so I bought new rims off of craigslist. They are 17" and came with some nice tires. The only problem is, I just noticed three of the tires are the same and one is different! They have the same rating (205/40/ZR17) and are all on the same rims and they have the same amount of tread wear. The only difference is the tread pattern. Is this ok?

It is not recommended to have some tires with different tread patterns than the other.

I would personally worry about how it would handle in an emergency situation. Your supposed to replace tires either 2 or 4 at a time, not one. Put them on your car, go to a dry parking lot, do like 50 then slam on the brakes like a person just jumped in your path. Do the same thing on wet pavement. If your car turns/loses control you've got an issue. Much better to find out how your car acts in an empty parking lot than when some new driver or old lady pulls out in front of you as your going much faster than them.
