Rear Sway Bar (RSB) creaking, driving me nuts

Postby hari-bhari » Mon Dec 05, 2011 4:00 pm

My RSB (or so I presume) has been making a creaking sound over the past 4-5 months. Multiple attempts to have it lubricated have failed. Today I had my struts and springs replaced (Tokico/Eibach) due to wear, and also to ensure the creaking was not coming from there. Even after replacement of the suspension, the creaking still persists.

Do I need new bushings (not really sure which part is the bushing)?
Is there any chance it's the strut mounts?
Or is there a particular spot I can have the shop lubricate to get this to stop (pictures would help)?

It's driving me nuts!! Any help is appreciated!

If the bushings need to be replaced, does anyone know which model?

I have same issue,. I believe it is bushings. Either way I am going to re-install stock sway bar and see if squeak goes away. It is very annoying.

I replaced springs and strut mount and it still makes sound. During cold days, it is worst
I will let u know once I swap it...maybe today

Yeah, either paste or Teflon thread tape. I wrap the bar under the bushings and put synthetic grease over the tape.

Unless you can see damage or deterioration of the bushing I would just try taping it.

I had no luck with that stuff. Teflon paste once a year and no squeaks.

so finally got the car jacked up today, took off the bushings, cleaned them and the RSB. one layer of teflon paste, then the mobil1 red grease, then teflon tape, and then more grease. put another layer on the inside of the bushing, and one more between the bushing and the bracket. took it for a short drive, no creaking. hopefully it lasts

BUT... HOW THE HELL DO YOU GET BOTH BRACKETS BACK ON?? I tried for about 3 hours, and I couldn't get the 2nd bolt (closest to the rear) of the left bracket to line up. I switched L <--> R brackets and still no luck. I had both sides of the car jacked up equally but also tried varying heights with no luck. So right now, one bracket is only bolted in partially and the sway bar is kinda hanging. Anyone have tips on how to get this damn thing back into place??

I had the same issue with not being able to get the bolt back in. Decided to take the bolt to local Ace Hardware and get a longer one with the same thread and was able to leverage the bolt where it was supposed to be.
