Comparing HID (35W) to HID (50W) 56k warning!

Postby philosophicaljt » Sat Sep 22, 2007 12:45 pm

I just installed some HID's that say they are 55W, but I am pretty sure they are 50W, but either way there is a huge difference over the much more common 35w hid kit that is all over ebay.

I bought an APEXCONE 55Watt HID kit from http://www.therpmstore.com/product_info ... cts_id=336.

I removed the 35w HID installed on the passenger side. Then the ballast. I then installed the new 55w bulb and ballast. I kept the 35w kit installed on the drivers side for comparision. I turned on the car. Let it run for a couple minutes. Then turned on the headlights. Here are the results, (I will post more later tonight):

you can barely even tell the drivers side headlight is on!

(This is with stock headlights by the way, not the modified's I am still working on)

^^Its not dark yet. Only 6:10pm here in ohio. I might have some night shots up here in an hour.

and yes, I spend a lot of money on lighting. Its a huge thing to me, lol. But I figured even for $145, if it sucks, its not a huge loss, at least I have a backup kit ready to go.

update: getting darker. I moved the car closer to get better shots. I am not a patient person, and am just going to install the other kit now.

This is exactly Why I suggest bending the projector tab inward. When I actually finish my other set of headlights, I will take comparision pics of the cutoff line and glare.

another update: wow. I am pretty sure that these are going to be too bright, lol. Its 7:36pm here, and I took it for a drive, and the road is already incredibly lit up. Brighter than even my 07 solara OEM HID'S! I am pretty sure the glare is going to be WAY too much in these stock halogen projectors. I will try and put them in the 07 HID solaras, but i doubt it will turn out well, as the bulb won't fit.

^^I am not keeping that kit in. I am swapping in my 07 HID's with modified projectors eventually. I just don't have time, lol.
