LED Back-Up Light Strip - *NEW PICs

LED Back-Up Light Strip - *NEW PICs

Postby PXLpainter » Sun Dec 30, 2007 6:52 pm

Okay - I've had these for months now, but finally took the time to install them today!

Since I replaced my Gen 2 tails with the Gen 2.5 LED tails, I lost my backup lights. I hate the Gen 2.5 rear bumpers and I really wanted all my turn signals to be consistent with the amber color (especially with my amber mirror signals) so I didn't want to go with Milt's mod.

So I used two 18" all-weather LED strips glued into the gap underneath my trunk. It's a pretty snug fit and had to do a little modding of the latch hardware, but it works fine now.

And yes, they only come on when the car is in reverse! ;)

Used my Fiancés' cam to get some better pics tonight:

Oh yeah - I also finally installed my hyper-white LED lic. plate bulbs today as well. ;)

I will get daytime shots in the sun tomorrow.

That's neat, one of a kind!

Reminds me of something I saw earlier tonight on the headlights of a Saab.

Over each headlight there was an eyebrow of LEDs, just like you have on the rear, and in the place where many people put those eyelid things.

It was a really interesting look.

LOL you guys! Yeah - I'm pretty fukkin old alright! ;)

To be honest, you can't see sh!t out the back of the convert regardless how much light you have - so it's primarily a warning for other drivers that you're backing out of a packing space. (not that anybody pays attention anyway!)

I had some bitch whip around the corner in a parking lot tonight like she was on a go-cart track and almost plowed into the side of my car. I was totally out of the space already too. She actually made the tires squeal slamming on the brakes. WTF??!! :o I just stopped and gave her a really evil look and S L O W L Y pulled forward and held her up at the light leaving the lot going as slow as I could over the speed bumps and the dip in the road.

Like I said in the OP - I'll put up better pics one I get back up north where my real camera is. Yes you can see the little LEDs in the gap during the day - they're hardly noticeable, but I got this kind so you could have a full 180º of visibility with them as they curve around the back of the car.

My plans are to add on more long strip down under the bumper in the center but out of sight so it just glows on the ground for more illumination.

My other plan is to put two more underneath each door jam, tied into the interior lighting so they will illuminate the ground by the doors when I unlock the car. I did this with bulb illumination on my Tundra and it was a great feature to avoid stepping in a puddle or someone's puke or dog crap before getting into the car!

Granted, I'm a little more careful where I park my Solara than I was with my truck... Now I only have to worry about that sh!t when I go to Milt's house LOL!
J/K Milt! :drinking:
